Replying To Lockjaw:  "Midfield for us is where I'm most worried. If McGee and McFadden are out it would most likely be Thompson and Langan to fill in? Two good men no doubt but not much experience playing together as a midfield duo. Also - they could be up against the O'Shea brothers who have been there and done that over the years.

While it would be fantastic to have a full deck to choose from at the back I'm not AS worried as I was before the game last weekend. The lads that came in did a great job against a better attack in Kerry's than Mayo have in my opinion.

Patrick's hamstring is a cause for concern as well. Brennan was well marshalled the other day and it might be expecting too much of young Gallen to become the focal point of the attack in a hostile Castlebar, great player and all as he is."
What exactly have the o Shea brothers been there and done ??????

Having won Sam and no Connacht champ for years

AOS is the most over rated player playing the game right now

Winning a semi is like an all Ireland for mayo tho

Mayo for me. They have learnt the hard way how to see out a game by whatever means necessary.

Bar One, The Irish House, MacHales, Mick Byrnes (real GAA pub with great characters) but in all honesty and I don't usually drink in castlebar myself the town is on its knees nightlife wise...if your staying the weekend, stay 15mins over the road in. Westport if you can find accommodation.

That said, bank holiday, big game, should be a great buzz around Castlebar on Sat.

Good advice. Head to Westport. Best town in Ireland but bank holiday weekend and it'll be packed

I'd have to go along with the general consensus in this thread. All the form says Donegal but write Mayo off at your peril. However, given how Roscommon and Galway fared outside of Connaught (I know Galway only met Mayo again but you know what I mean) you'd have to say that there are major weaknesses in this Mayo team so you'd have to say Donegal. Also, they've a better chance of taking on the Dubs I reckon.
Either way, looking forward to it.

There's a fella playing for Eunans in Donegal. He's so under rated Bonner won't give him a chance.

He'd clean Aiden O'Shea out of it I heard..........

Good man yew_tree cheers, been to Westport many times and will more than likely be staying with friends there. Only just realising how close it is to Castlebar!

I wouldn't believe everything I hear.

Eunan's are a mid table team with notions.

Why should Mayo give up a home game? The game was played in Limerick because that was the games in that round were to be played on a neutral field and Mayo is entitled to one home game as part of the Super 8s.

There does seem to be a small element of Donegal fans with a weird bitterness towards Mayo and can't help but throw out the usual, cliched jibes. You're the latest to fit that bill. Well done.

While not exactly bitter, I'd be a bit miffed at how ungracious Mayo were in 2013 when they beat us well in the quarter final. We are very similar counties in a way. Western based obviously and a bit isolated. The Celtic Tiger didn't have the same impact in parts of Mayo and Donegal than it did in the rest of Ireland for example. Long, sad histories of mass emigration and two football mad counties.

There has been a lot of needle whenever the two teams have met since, even in the League. Football is cyclical and I think we're due a win against Mayo. It will be a hard, tight match but I just think we'll have too much energy and attacking options. Can see us winning by about 3 or 4 points.

I wouldn't say bitterness as we haven't a whole lot to be bitter towards you guys about. Have a look at the Donegal forum for some insight maybe. Personally I think this is a great game and really looking forward to it, the battle of the emigrants, two gorgeous counties with so much in common in many ways. A battle royale in store.
