Croke Park was not considered a neutral venue when the quarter-finals were first introduced in 2001. When Kerry drew Dublin, the GAA fixed the game for Thurles. Kerry offered Dublin a toss of a coin for home venue. Dublin declined preferring the neutral ground of Thurles.

The Kerry team did show up and they beat Offaly to stay in the mcdonnagh, oh and our hurlers didn't get 5 million euro from the GAA to develop hurling like yer selves did back in 2009/2010.

Would you like to do it year in year out for 40 odd years? Trust me you wouldn't. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2088 - 09/07/2019 10:18:26 2208329 Link 0 |
Sure Healy Park is our second home these days. Will we have the same number of games as Tyrone there this year in the championship. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 09/07/2019 10:43:09 2208338 Link 5 |
Situations like this are why I think the gaa should invest in a proper stadium (i.e like PuC) in Athlone or somewhere else in the midlands. Perfectly central for people from all sides of the country. iarmhi_an_mhaith (Westmeath) - Posts: 268 - 09/07/2019 10:56:59 2208345 Link 1 |
I see, so yous will only support the Kerry hurlers of they get a load of money. Until then, screw them! MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 09/07/2019 11:31:32 2208364 Link 5 |

Why are the Dublin hurlers playing in Dublin's home ground that is not considered good enough for Dublin footballers league and quarter-final phase 1 home game?

You're a smart boy, I think you can work that out all by yourself. Dublin teams play where they're told to play by the rest of yous MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 09/07/2019 12:51:03 2208402 Link 5 |
Dublin is central, with excellent transport leading to the capital, a significant percentage that attend the games in Croke Park live in Dublin, that would not be the case in Athlone. Croke Park is an excellent stadium and people should appreciate same. A huge stadium in Athlone would become a white elephant. No chance the GAA will develop same. The GAA are fortunate to have developed such a fine stadium in Croke Park at the time they did and that it is debt free. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 09/07/2019 12:59:52 2208412 Link 0 |
"You're a smart boy, I think you can work that out all by yourself" You'd like to think so, wouldn't you? Some, i think, are being wilfully ignorant or wilfully dense, I'm not too sure. Dubsfan28 (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 09/07/2019 13:13:34 2208424 Link 0 |
Have to disagree with you Mes , he's not very smart at all -:)

Cork won't be complaining too much. Still involved in both codes at the business end of the championships. Any other counties with this "problem "? Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 09/07/2019 19:41:33 2208612 Link 0 |

It is as well to be playing in these games. Looked at going up for both games these weekend. Tickets for myself, wife and small fella would come to €140 (not terrible for 3 intercounty games). Accommodation at this late stage is very pricy though. Prohibitive for us at the moment given we stayed overnight for Ennis game and hope to have another day out later. Might give the footballers a shout this weekend. Hurlers will have 25,000 shouting them on day after I say. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 09/07/2019 21:18:28 2208679 Link 0 |
Hope I am not too hungover after celebrating on Saturday night to enjoy the hurling on Sunday. Amazing that Cork/Kk is a curtain raiser to Tipp/Laois. GAA obviously thought that Dublin would be there. Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 10/07/2019 19:45:43 2209217 Link 0 |
John Horan is president of the GAA these days . Whilst he is there everything will be skewed towards the capital. It's all about the money with the GAA, and with 2 million living in the capital, John Horan will try to tap into that. Not one iota of attention will be given to less populated counties.

Nothing like 2 million living in Dublin, get over yourself -:)

Two tier Horan must be disappointed at Dublin's 'home' game this evening
