Poor Refereeing Hurling

(Oldest Posts First)

Is it just me but is the quality of refereeing very poor in hurling? I was in attendance for the Dublin Galway match yesterday and so many errors was made! Listen I know they can miss things and that's fine every one makes mistakes. But yesterday I could not make sense of the refeering What do the rest of people on here think ? On a more positive note congrats to Dublin !

I am SICK AND TIRED of people complaining about referees.
If refereeing is so bloody easy, go get a whistle in your mouth and show us all how its done.

Every single Sunday from January to September, this board is just full of people complaining about referees. Referees are human, don't have the benefit of replays, are often chasing a ball 50-60-70 meters away, it is not an easy job.

I thought Fergal Horgan was outstanding on Saturday, he blew what needed to be blown and gave players the benefit of the doubt when they were trying to hurl the ball. There is always a few you get and a few you don't. I think there was a realisation that Fergal made the game what it was - an outstanding game of hurling.

As DJ Carey once said when asked about a referee - "I made ten times as many mistakes today as he did". I always thought it was a great thing to say.

But of course, the day we lose, it is the referees fault......cop out by supporters/players/managers to blame the referee.

There were several passages of play where I thought he'd dropped his whistle. Fouls by both teams going unpunished.

He certainly let the game flow in anyways!

But more seriously Refs are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Let the game flow and be accused of ignoring the rules, apply the rules and face the fans ire for being to finicky or the dreaded 'football ref' insult.
