An incredible stat. In the last 11 seasons every team in Ulster has made the decider.

This weekend was also the first ever weekend that all 9 ulster teams made an appearance.

This will be Donegal's 8th final in 9 years, which makes that stat even more remarkable.

Am I right in saying donegal previously didn't do too well in Ulster? What's your total title count now?

Donegal have 9 titles, winning their first in 1972.

This will only be the 2nd time Donegal and Cavan have met in the Ulster Final.

Yes before this year Donegal have been in 22 finals and won 9. Their first was in 1963 and first win in 1972.

We lost our next 5 finals in the years after we won our first All Ireland 1993-2006

But we were the first team to win consecutive Ulsters with
both coming from the preliminary round in 2011-2012

Final record

Down - played 5 Won 2
Derry - played 4 Won 2
Tyrone - played 3 Won 1
Monaghan - played 4 Won 1
Armagh - played 4 - Won 1
Fermanagh - played 1 won 1
Cavan - played 1 won 1

If we win this year we will move to 6th for total amount of titles by claiming our 10th - with Antrim, Derry and Fermanagh below us.

So yes this decade is definitely unprecedented success, though the early 90s was a good period too.

However we've still lost half of our Ulster Finals in the the last 9 years 4 wins v 4 defeats.

Sorry we've won 4 lost 3 so far this decade. Hope I haven't jinxed our 8th final :-)

Incredible stat. And easy to forget donegal haven't always been succesful. I wonder what kind of crowd you'll get at the final. 30k?

Clones holds ~ 36k. I'd imagine it'll be a sell out

Its a first final appearance for Cavan since 2001. Its a generation that have never seen Cavan win the anglo-celt. I expect it to be a sell out. Around 35/36K.

The Ulster final and Connacht final have interest and not a very predicatable outcome.

When Donegal won their first Ulster title in 1972 their manager Brian McNiff was also a player at WHB. When the won their first AI he was also their Manager.

No, you were right first time mystic Al, 4 & 4 you keep it nice and symmetrically, and we'll do the same played 1 won 1 :-)

Yes, and Monaghan beat Donegal in 2013, 2015 and lost to them in 2014. Also beat them in 1979 final.

Donegal and Cavan met in 1983 final with Donegal winning. I know from good authority that that was one of the biggest attendances ever at an Ulster Final before they got 'trendy' in the early 90's.

Both teams have great support when they get going and with Cavan being ravenous for success and little diesel needed to get to Clones, there'll be lot of them there.....

That's some going alright.

Still a bit of Down's 12 consecutive final appearances though.

I meant Donegal have played Monaghan 4 times and Donegal have only won 1.

We've lost more than won against most counties.

That's what I said, but from a donegal perspective.

Monaghan - Played 4, won 1

Calm down Monaghan fans ;-)

Which in itself is a bit behind Cavans 18 finals in a row (they actually were in 23 out of 24 finals in a row). Even Antrim had 7 in a row back in the day!
