Well deserved win for Galway but my God they made hard work of it. I think collectively they are the dumbest team in Hurling. They have no idea how to play with an extra man. The decision making was shocking in their backs today. Their goalie with two free men goes long...they gave away the stupidest frees to keep Kilkenny in the game yet after saying all that they won. They played fantastic off the cuff hurling at times that Killed Kilkenny. They just cant live with that type of pace or interplay any more. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 09/06/2019 15:46:18 2192181 Link 6 |
Kilkenny were beat up a stick for most of this game. Cody wont complain.

Some good points you make.Galway are talented.I think their Management have questions to answer in terms of tactics and use of the extra man.Galway should not have been hanging on at the end there

He gave out a number of cards in the allocated 4 minutes should have definitely been more time played because of this. Galway deserved winners dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 09/06/2019 16:25:54 2192209 Link 2 |
Wish I could disagree with you but I can't. Will hold onto the hope that they will learn.

Galway were deserved winners but the refereeing was a joke. cats34 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 14 - 09/06/2019 16:58:18 2192225 Link 5 |
Galway deserved the win, we did well to get within a point. With TJ's last free in injury time there was a delay of about a minute and a half with the ref foostering about with yellow cards, so it was very harsh not to add on more time for that (unless the 4 minutes already incorporated this delay which I don't know). ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 09/06/2019 18:17:35 2192264 Link 4 |
All the exciting games are in Leinster it seems! Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 09/06/2019 18:17:59 2192265 Link 2 |
My thoughts exactly. Even more so in the last 20 minutes. I knew as soon as Murphy got sent off that we'd let the intensity drop and KK would come back into it. We were completely on top in the 2nd half until that point. That's when you need to put a team to the sword and be ruthless. KK did it many times in their pomp. We still lack that killer instinct. A good win all the same and we've a lot to work on. Wexford-KK is a big game now for both. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2053 - 09/06/2019 18:20:21 2192267 Link 2 |
So do Galway have to win their next match or are they "safe"? Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2138 - 09/06/2019 18:30:44 2192283 Link 0 |
Galway like to live on the edge and keep us staunch supporters on the edge of our seats but to be the 1st team to beat KK in nolan park in the championship in over 60yrs isn't bad! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2230 - 09/06/2019 18:52:19 2192300 Link 1 |
We're not through yet. If Dublin beat us and Wexford draw with KK we're knocked out on scoring difference. There would actually be 4 teams on 5 points in that scenario.

I could be wrong, but its conceivable that Galway could still get knocked out. If Dublin beat Galway next week, and Wexford and Kilkenny draw, all 5 teams would end up on 5 points. In that case, head-to-head results wouldn't be used, so it'd be down to score difference. Which in the scenario above, would knock Galway out (if Dublin beat Galway, they'll implicitly have a better scoring difference, as they both have the same points difference as it stands, and Wexford and KK have better point difference as of today). At least, I think thats how it would work. 2 big games next week, no doubt. Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 09/06/2019 19:07:29 2192314 Link 1 |
No we are not safe. We need at least a draw to be sure. If Dublin win and KK and Wexford draw we would finish fourth and lose out on score difference.
