ah stop!!!! not sure if you're being genuine or being cute!!! but anyway i'll be serious here. Hughes is a huge loss for Monaghan and Kerins not playing the whole league is a worry too. but look hes been there before!!!! I'm being genuine when i say this. monaghan have a team to be proud of at the minute are genuinely the pound for pound best team in the country!!!! Malachy has got a lot out of Monaghan, (I wouldn't say hes got it all) I just think Monaghan will still have too much for cavan. they have huge experience in tight, great strength and work ethic. Monaghan are still going out tomorrow with a list of all stars on the team i need not name!!. i'm expecting a good game, this will go down to the wire but ultimately its monaghan for me. still stuck a few pound on cavan though as i really do think it'll be that tight.

Perhaps. .

But would you believe either manager if they named their starting 15? Both would have 2 or 3 changes made by throw-in.

I gave Cavan a great chance earlier in the week but on seeing the team named I think they will fall short. They're seriously lacking in quality forwards. Gearoid McKiernan will need to be on top of his game if they're to win tomorrow evening.

What other forwards were you hoping to see named?

Mackey hasn't 70mins in him and Johnson isn't on the panel (as far as I know, he certainly wasn't on it 2 weeks ago).

The team named hasn't told us anything we didn't know about Cavan.

What could be crucial is that Killian Clarke is named at CHB for the first time since we beat Mayo in Castlebar 2 years ago. I think it's crazy how long it's taken for us to see him play there again and I hope that's where he stays.

Doesn't matter what team Malachy names, there'll always be a couple of changes before the throw in. Main thing is we know we're down our first few midfield options, so that's a real leveller in this fixture. Regardless I still think we have the attacking power to win in Breffni, though it won't be easy. These games are always tight and sure Cavan are due one...

My hunch is that Cavan will have to wait a while longer, but who knows. I feel like it could come down to the last 5-10 minutes again. Maybe it'll take an energetic late cameo from someone like O'Hanlon to push us over the line.

Depends on how Cavan manage our kick outs and how we vary it up a bit. We should go short or very long. Cavan will come at us hard from the start and will be fully expecting to boss the opening exchanges. We need to be ready for that and indeed do the same to them. If we keep it tight till half time, and keep our heads, we should win

If Cavan don't win this one they will never beat Monaghan. Monaghan missing Hughes,Kearns,McCarron,Malone and McAdam. Where would you be going.

Monaghan team named:

Beggan
D. Wylie
Boyle
R.Wylie
O'Connell
Walshe
K. Duffy
Kelly
K.Hughes
Ward
Malone
Carey
McAnespie
McManus
O'Hanlon

Big news is Kieran Hughes starting and Niall Kearns is named on the bench, though I wouldn't be shocked to see Kieran be kept in reserve in a late change. Great to see them back in the mix regardless.

Darren Hughes, Jack McCarron and Neil McAdam out. Big day for Stephen O'Hanlon making his championship debut.

And notable return, albeit to the bench, of B. McGinn.

Yeah, I'd hoped to have seen more of him in the league but still think he has great potential, good potential attacking impact sub off the bench along with McCarthy and possibly Bannigan.

Ideally, what would monaghans starting team be if there were no injuries?

I think eddie's post earlier is spot on.. and yes monaghan will make changes before the start. Interesting thing is i haven't seen a Cavan bench and there will be a few there unlucky to miss out.

Strange mcAdam is left out as he would have been a good man for the last 15 mins. Probably was a toss between him and kearns.

There is no doubt it will be tight and in some of those promising league games Cavan ultimately faded in the end. I'd like to think it was fitness and hopefully it wasn't mental strength and belief, because loads of that will be needed this evening..

Midfield would be Darren Hughes and Niall Kearns. A fully fit Kieran Hughes would be included too, I'd probably put him at full forward if he's not in midfield. And Jack McCarron could start too, though that wouldn't be a sure thing. I'd have him on the forty where I think we could get the best out of him.

Kearns and D Hughes in the middle.
Kelly at no. 12 or wing back.
Kieran Hughes full forward with McManus and Jack.
ORourke has patched up the midfield for today but options off the bench are weakned. Hughes won't last an hour surely.

Reports I'm hearing from people in Scotstown. Kieran has been working tirelessly both with the county set but also on his own to get back up scratch for the championship.

He carried an injury which hampered him last season. Took time out to get the injury sorted and hopefully today he gets rewarded for his hard work. Our most talented player when on form.

I've been waiting for this Cavan breakthrough for years. Hopefully it finally arrives. I believe the winner plays down/Armagh in the semi final. That's an intriguing thought.

Monaghan have been gross in that first half.

Massive second half coming up, still fancy them to get the win though.

Well done cavan. Tried everything in their power to throw that away but deserved winners in the end .. they will enjoy that no doubt.

Monaghan?....... poor. So poor
