Munster Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Who would have thought that after 4 games in the Munster championship this year the home team has lost 3. Each team who had home advantage as their first game lost. Remarkable but really goes to show how unpredictable the Munster championship is. Plenty more twists and turns im sure. Limerick wont like going to Walsh Park having to get a result. That being said, its amazing how Waterfords form has plummeted since the league semi and in fairness I dont think their conditioning and fitness looks good. They are also very blunt in attack.

Clare and Tipperary is anyones guess. Tipperary have the form but Clare have only lost at home once since 2016. Cusack Park will be a cauldron that day - I cant wait. Cork are right back in the mix now.

Question for Limerick supporters today - Would you rather have won yesterday or won the League?

Corks win makes it very interesting. If Waterford have any pride they will fight tooth and nail in Walsh Park against Limerick. That should be a very interesting game.
Re. Waterfords form. They were extremely hard to beat under Derek McGrath. Experts wanted them to remove the shackles. Do they have the forwards to play a conventional game?

Tipp v Clare for me is the one that could put either in a Munster final going on form.

Limerick v Waterford in my view is an eliminator game. The loser is 100% gone in my eyes.

If Tipp lose to Clare and Limerick beat Waterford and Clare in their two games Tipp v Limerick is then also a winner takes all on the final day.

I would expect Cork to beat Waterford but a final day showdown with Clare also a winner takes all in Ennis my god this is going to be some ending once again to a great Munster Championship.

Should multiple teams end on 4 points is scoring difference bought into play or is it head to head ?

Could just as easily be three teams on 2 points. And then we could end up with a scenario where a county who lost three games in their provincial championship goes on to win an all ireland

Discussing the match on the Limerick forum and not paying much attention to Wexford lads with nothing better to do.

I'm actually being genuine. A lot of posters scoffed when i said the League is worth F all and I'm interested to know now if the result yesterday would've changed their minds?

OK..ill take that at face value.
I was delighted when we won the league and I don't think it had any bearing on yesterdays result.. If it was going to have an impact that would be seen in July etc. (assuming we get that far)

We last won the league in 1997, its one of only 3 titles available which we don't see too much of in Limerick hurling...
So to answer your question, I'd rather have won the league than yesterdays match..
Ive seen limerick teams underachieving for years. To see my county as defending AI and league champions was and is amazing.

Just in relation to the sending off, as you say the first yellow was harsh - which i agree with on the face of it.
but the thing that is being overlooked is that the referee had previously spoken to the 2 players and clearly must have warned them. The sunday game have to give a fair balanced argument and they did the referee no favours by ignoring that fact the 2 players had been previously warned..

I am a bit confused, LHR.Cork Tipperary and Waterford have each played 2 games. Clare and Limerick have played one game.
Waterford have no points after 2 games, one home and one away. Limerick have lost one home game.
Cork won away, and lost at home.

Waterford v Limerick will be an important game for both teams, if Waterford lose, their season will be over. I think they will put up a huge battle.
Clare v Tipperary in Ennis is a game both sides will want to win. Tipperary v Limerick will be a cracker.
Cork are back in the mix, but they have to play Clare in Ennis, and Waterford at home.
A lot of hurling to be played.

I still think Limerick will qualify they have the strongest panel around they have a lot of similar Hurlers but bar 2 or 3 not many exceptional players such as TJ Reid S Callinan Patrick Horgan Bubbles ect and when they get to play to their system are fierce hard to break down.
Few will admit it but they under estimated the Rebels who after all scored 1.24 playing badly Myler tweaked a few things a centre back yesterday that was not even in panel last week worked well.

Tipperary now definate favourites for Munster & All Ireland Ireland titles Limerick always gives them bags off it though

I'd rather get out of Leinster than win the league, honestly.

Larry, check out the number of counties who have retained the McCarthy Cup after winning it after a long lapse. Very few have and that includes counties like Cork, Kilkenny and Tipp. So if we dont get into the closing stages this year we will merely regroup and aim to talk the talk and walk the walk in the next few years as we so splendidly did last year, when we every team in the country that was worth beating. However, as was proved after the Clare game last year, write us off at your peril.
