I really don't feel this meath confidence. We're about to find out how big the gap now is. If it's stretched then unless major change is made to funding a leinster team might not beat Dublin in championship ever again. Even if funding is redistributed they have a population x10 of most leinster counties.

Yeah but Meath has one and a half times the population of Mayo and three times that of Monaghan yet either county would wipe the floor with Meath. Meath have also received one and a half times the GDF of each of the other two counties in the past decade. Who would have thunk it?

We'll find out next year if were capable of beating them two, they'll certainly won't wipe the floor with us, as regards funding I believe meath in the last couple of years are near the top funded counties but still miles behind dublin. Cork have more registered gaa players then dublin but they two don't get anything like what the dubs get.

Mayo 130k
Meath 190k

That's not 1 and a half times. We may have double the population of some but we don't have x10 the population which is the average Dublin have over leinster counties. The advantages can usually be managed in terms of population but when you have 1.35m in your county it takes the mick.

By 2060 Dublins population will be 2m. If they keep getting the lions share of funding how could you reasonably expect anybody in Leinster to compete. The structure is broken and long term it won't make sense Dublin playing vs anyone.

Yes multiply Mayo's population by 1.5 and you will get Meath's population. So with 50% more population and 1.5 times the funding, huge advantages in your book, Meath have been trailing miles behind the Mayo wake. So the conclusion must be that your simple formula of money + pooulation = success simply doesn't hold true no matter how much Meath want to blame this on their poor state of affairs over the past couple of decades. Dublin as a county has always had the largest population and has always attracted larger funding as a result. Real success has only come in the last 8 years. Why not previously? Cork has these advantages too yet they have not translated this into success. So how do you even out population? How do you overcome the population advantage that Meath has over Carlow for example? Meath has 8 times the population of Carlow. It's all relative really. Divide up the whole country into 32 evenly populated, artificially created footballing franchises and give them equal funding, no sponsorship or other income sources allowed? I guess that's what you want. That would then be truly fair.

Previously? Did you forget that Dublin are second on the all Ireland roll of honour and miles ahead of everyone on the leinster roll of honour. You've always had an unfair advantage and now you've an even bigger one. The funny thing is if we trimmed you down to the average 150k a county usually has with similar funding you'd be lucky to have 10% of the honours which would be fine as there's 31 other counties to compete with.

The biggest mistake the GAA made was not splitting you from the start but given the circumstances I can understand. It will happen eventually. Every leinster title and Sam you add to the cabinet edges that reality one step closer. And every year the population increases more then other counties it edges it closer too. It's reached the point where most counties just accept Dublin winning because they understand the imbalance.

Exactly. I'm like the opposite of Royaldunne. Most meath fans lie in the middle but every year shift a little closer to me. Same for most counties really.

May I just say , we haven't played mayo in any comp since 09 (which we won) so I don't get the comparison here at all. Actually the last time a mayo team beat Meath in championship was 1951. I don't see the relevance tbh. Even if you look at lines of form Roscommon last year took a penalty and a free both in injury time to draw with Meath in league in Hyde, and this year they beat mayo. So people banging on about mayo is totally irrelevant to the conversation, they don't play in Leinster and if they did they would face same difficulty as both Meath and Kildare do, ie over exposure to the man city of the gaa.

Listening to the annual oh woe is us whinging about Dublin's population and money from Meath quarters would suggest otherwise. Predictably O'Rourke and Hayes will be putting pen to paper following the semi, assuming Dublin win, leading the yearly "split Dublin in 2" dialogue. It's as predictable as the St Patrick's Day parade on March 17. It's going to happen. It must be Summer!! Watch out, the Dubs are gunning for ye.

So O'Rourke Hayes and jack are the spokespeople for a whole county. I don't want dubs split in two. Now of course funding should be more for Meath. But watch Leinster final. Never before will a county with so much be humiliated by a county with so little.
