Connacht Championship 2019

Still three major losses, Ciaran Murtagh Roscommon's most consistent scorer over the last few years, Cathal Compton the best midfield Roscommon have and him going off injured in the Connacht final last summer was turning point and McInerney the best defender Roscommon probably had.

Wasn't all three Dalys on the panel last year? will Brian Stack,John McManus,Fintan Cregg be match fit after all not playing for their county since last year? could have done with all for the NFL.

As for the topic of thread my predictions are as follows.

Galway and Mayo to beat New York and London by 15+ points.
Roscommon v Leitrim - the Rossies by 6+ points

Semi finals

Mayo v Roscommon - Mayo by 4-6 points
Galway v Sligo a 10 point win at least for Galway

Final

Galway v Mayo - Mayo by 2-3 points

Sligo to win no game in the qualifiers, Leitrim to win one game, Roscommon to make a championship exit at round 3 or 4. Galway and Mayo to reach and lose All Ireland semi finals."
Ciaran Murtagh was a massive loss during the league, we have no like for like replacement for his play making ability at half forward and he was probably our hardest working forward. Cathal Compton has left a major void to fill in midfield but he was so injury prone we couldn't rely on him either. McInerney was the best defender we had but if we can structure our defence right for the championship we might make up for his loss.

Daly brothers were on the panel last year. Ronan Daly was bizarrely dropped in May and Niall Daly was allowed to play club football during the super 8s. Conor Daly carried an injury all summer.

It looks like Mayo's Connacht championship to lose and up to the rest of us to try and stop them. Galway will feel most confident of doing that with their recent record v Mayo however James Horan has never lost a championship game to Galway or a game in Connacht. If its the back door route for us as expected i hope we are as lucky as Monaghan was last summer in the terms of who they drew.

Nothing Mayo done during the league has made me think they are going to win Sam. In fact I still think if Galway have our first choice 15 we will beat them.
They are back since October, a new manager so they were going all out for the league. Long term they may get to super 8s but no more.

That's more like it belclare....welcome back. If we somehow get to a Connacht final I promise we will try and behave and not bring giant Mayo flags, and outnumber the home support. A shock win against Galway would be a great year.

Try not get any players sent off for dangerous tackles would be a start

You've got to love this holier than thou attitude that all fans (including Mayo fans) have when it comes to specific incidents. For the record all the recent Mayo red cards against Galway have been fully deserved and it's not nice to see but you would swear that no Galway man has ever been involved in anything like this.

You could very well be right but Mayo could have won every single one of their league games by 30 points and I suspect you would still hold the same opinion.

Not sure why people are dismissing the Rossie's here.
I know it's a home game for Mayo and they bet them by a point in the league in poor conditions. If Mayo end up winning Connacht, they will have done it the hard way.
Still don't think they'll win Sam.

Going by Galway record over mayo over the last few years and looking at both panels, I think Galway will have mayos number in pearse stadium. Great to see the Mayo yahooism back in full swing though, makes it all the sweeter sending them home with defeat. Gaillimh Abu

There's outrage on these forums if you don't say Mayo for Sam and Connacht! Not like Mayo to get over excited after a win!

I have read back over the posts on this particular thread for signs of this outrage of which you speak. There was a Leitrim lad hoping his team would give the Ros a good run, a couple of Ros lads tipping Galway for Connacht, followed by a Galway lad clearly taking the p***. Nary a sign of outrage anywhere bar a few pseudo provocative posts by a couple of Galway strays. We, in Mayo are resigned to the inevitability of Galway romping unhindered through Connacht, once they get the thirty of forty lads back from, injury, club duty, Australia, forced absences, unforced absences, jury duty and whatever you're having yourself. Sure weren't we destroyed twice already this year with Galways third or possibly fourth team and us only missing Cillian. Personally I'm betting on a Galway, Dublin final and with all these natural Galway forwards I'm hearing about, who are bound to run amok in Croke Park, I think the drive for five is doomed. As for getting excited about a win, I recall the evening when Galway eventually beat Mayo, think it was 2016, now that's what I call excitement. Never in my time have I heard the fields of Athenry sung with such gusto by so few. Even the real supporters, who hadn't left the bar in an Sportlann, joined in. Like suck calves let out for the first time, bless them. And all talk of what they'd do when they'd meet the Dubs. Ah the innocence of it all!

You'll find I didn't JUST say this thread. So you might need to do some more reading and get back to me.
It's nice to know you're keeping up to date with all the Galway football news, I presume you get the Galway Advertiser through the letterbox everyday in Salthill or somewhere else in Galway. Hopefully Mayo get that long overdue win over Galway in Pearse this year and we might get to see more " Mayo for Sam " signs this summer.
I really believe ye will go all the way this year. We thought our hurler's had a famine, can only imagine how you feel.

Oddly enough there are Mayo people who don't actually work in Galway, me being one of them, and no I don't get this Galway Advertiser, even though I'm sure it's a perfectly reputable production. Some of your fellow county men on here keep me up to date on the state of Galway football and of course I have no cause to doubt the veracity of their posts. I am touched by your belief in us and almost became emotional on receipt of your kind felicitations.

What yahooism is this? I'm sure you're not just talking rubbish and can easily point to an example. Thanks in advance

Did we not beat Galway in Salthill in 2009, 2013 and 2015? "Long overdue" surely couldn't refer to a one previous championship game, could it? Though I suppose some Galway posters are counting the FBD games these days...

Mayo did go a long time without a win in Tuam, I'll grant you, but we also won the last two championship meetings between the sides in the old ground.

Lots of football to be played before these teams potentially meet in the championship anyway.

I was referring to Galway beating Mayo in 2016,2017 and 2018 home and away. All in the Connacht Championship.
Yes , plenty of football to be played before then. Like the tricky Roscommon game.
