Replying To theweanling:  "why is this still being spoken about, seriously if you scrapped the competition counties would just go organising challenge games as warm up. so in effect you'd be replacing one thing with more of the same thing."
That already happens.

Cavan played Meath in a challenge in early December.

But what about the money for injured players? A good way of shaking off the turkey and a good cause

That can still happen with friendlies that would be played instead of an organised competition

You know rightly that won't happen with friendlies. You'll never raise money at these. This competition is already a friendly one, really, why not keep it as is. Not understanding why this needs to change away from what it is. It fits its purpose.

Replying To StoreysTash:  "These competitions would be great but the need for instant results and pressure from supporters to win a warm up match is just ridiculous."
If they don't react well to pressure from supporters in January what chance have they when the serious business of the championship starts? Better to spot that now than when it's too late. We'll rarely watch new county players in January and be sure they'll be great in the championship. But these games can at least show players that aren't quite ready for senior intercounty action.

Replying To hurlorhurley:  "These competitions will remain as part of the calendar as things stand because of one reason MONEY.
They all have sponsors
They all have gate money being paid
They all have match programme (a single A4 sheet of paper being sold for €1)"
The man who realised that they could turn 1 A4 page into a euro could do with spending some time on the Cork or Galway county boards!

Why wouldnt it?
If county boards and their marketing/pro people did their job they would get people to attend these games. All im saying is if you remove the competition then teams can pick and choose how many games they play in pre season and not have number of games in pre season determined by the result of the games.

Could they end up playing more games instead of less?

As many few as they like. a pre season doesnt need to contain knock out competitions like the inter county season has at present
