Just wondering if it were a player that struck the blow would the proposed ban be much steeper Triple H (Meath) - Posts: 551 - 23/10/2018 20:03:35 2147973 Link 0 |
dont want to turn this into a diarmuid connolly thing, everyone here knows that i have never defended diarmuid cobnollys actions and felt he was a liability albeit a wonderful footballer, flawed genius, having said that, its mind bending that a player can put a hand on an official and get a 12 week ban (no complaints about that) but being a selector, encroaching the field of play and absolutely decking an unsuspecting player that could potentially have caused real damage to the player gets less one third less of that of diarmuid connolly.

Davy fitz got 8 weeks for entering the field and shouldering Jason forde last year. What this individual did was a lot worse. Imagine the uproar if davy fitz came onto the field and punched j forde in the face. You would be looking at a 12 month ban. The dingle club should be banning this lad for a long time. Really embrassing for the club.

That **** should never be allowed to attend another match, don't mind be part of the management team. They'll never discourage this crap with these farcical bans. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 23/10/2018 21:25:52 2147990 Link 6 |
There was always fights, why getting so much coverage now PyatPree (Cork) - Posts: 376 - 23/10/2018 21:36:57 2147994 Link 0 |
Because everyone has a camera in their hand. Though striking someone from behind for no reason is the definition of a coward.

Social media, and I agree but a mentor or whatever decking a player is not the norm and is a very big no-no because it's a serious incitement to riot. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 23/10/2018 22:01:30 2147997 Link 3 |
And admin, if you're going to censor profanities at least use the appropriate amount of ***, as people may think I used the 'C' word, heaven forbid :D realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 23/10/2018 22:11:14 2147999 Link 3 |
There is always scuffles and handbags but this was a particularly nasty and unprovoked strike on a player who was just standing there not getting involved at all. I don't think the selector in question could have any complaints about a 12 month ban or even a formal assault charge. If he did that to me or you on the street it's an assault pure and simple. A lot of these mass brawls don't go beyond pushing and shoving, this is very different.

On a lighter note, a little flashback to last time the mongrel sport was enjoyable, 1986, The difference between the two sides physically was huge back then, and our lads did not roll over. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 23/10/2018 22:25:12 2148004 Link 5 |

It seems way to soft, I can only assume he has good friends on the committee as otherwise that would be a minimum 3 months ban and realistically probably 6 months to a year. In essence he got off scot free as the season is over now. There was no ambiguity here either there were two videos from from different angles and it was as clear as day Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1596 - 23/10/2018 23:04:58 2148021 Link 0 |
A serious assault & it merits only 8 weeks suspension, this Association is a joke, where are the highly paid officials in Croke Park, not even a peep out of them to condemn it. If he struck him on the street, he would be facing a large compensation bill & a conviction. A national embarrassment at this stage but no surprise. The amount of cover ups on very serious issues that never see the light of day is shocking. Uimhir.a.3. (Galway) - Posts: 409 - 24/10/2018 00:48:36 2148033 Link 0 |
Unbelievably short ban for such a disgraceful attack. As was said Connolly got a 12 week ban (justified) but put it into context with this. I also recall our own graham geraghty getting 12 week ban for knocking the refs book to ground. (Justified) but neither assaulted someone. Ffs. This is getting beyond a bloody joke. It should have been a 12 month ban. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 24/10/2018 07:40:21 2148042 Link 0 |
Agreed. For such a cowardly blow the lad should be banned for at least a year imo. Big suspensions that stick are what is needed. Wayne mentioned the Connolly incident above and I agreed with his suspension at the time. It was a minor incident in some ways but the punishment was draconian and acts as a deterrent to any interaction with officials. The same needs to be done for physical acts of violence. Draconian sentences might get the message across that acting the hard man is unacceptable. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 24/10/2018 07:56:39 2148047 Link 2 |
This is great to know , so when you're playing a big game you can run on and knock out the best player and just get an 8 week suspension. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 24/10/2018 09:26:23 2148059 Link 3 |
How can it be 8 weeks? tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1351 - 24/10/2018 09:46:58 2148060 Link 1 |
Spot on! 8 weeks is a shambles of a ban for what would get him more than 8 months if he done it on the street.
