It Just Doesn't Feel Right

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I don't know about the rest of you but to me the build up to this years All Ireland feels very mute and lethargic. I don't know if it's the fact that in most peoples eyes the result is all but sewn up or if it's the new format with all the games being played sooner than before but it's just not the same. There seems to be no enthusiasm or talk of the match in general. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me that thinks it doesn't feel like an All Ireland final week?

Neither team likes to court the media. There will be plenty of chatter for the two weeks after the final.

Ah sure Mayo are keeping the media pages filled for the wrong reasons...some change around from the past two years when we were actually involved in the final.

The match is a foregone conclusion, sport is supposed to be about unpredictability. The public have turned their backs on football

Things seem very muted, imagine there is plenty of excitement in Tyrone but otherwise as you say, very quite.

To be fair, no team speaks now before an important match cause the media are likely to twist it in someway to create a story which the opposition will twist further to help with motivation.

Dublin is a far different place than it was 20 years ago, most people don't care, only the GAA people take note, and despite what some ignorant people think, our 'large' population has very little effect.
I personally can't wait, I'm as excited as ever and I don't care if others aren't, believe me, if their county was playing it would be a far different story.
Don't worry folks, this side won't last forever.

All of those who are into GAA in Dublin are in a frenzy this week. Everyone is buzzing and there's a blue army gathering ready to march on Jones' road on Sunday. Bunting and flags are going up everywhere, the footbridge at Fairview is even back in blue. The media is a bit more muted than usual but how many Dubs write in the media anyway? Neither county are media darlings, just ask Kimmage for a view on the Dubs and anyone in RTE for a take on Tyrone. There's two stories here. Dublin's attempt at the 4 in a row and a Tyrone attempt to deflate the wheels on the blue juggernaut. I'm as excited about this game as my first final in 83. It's in the blood. Up the Dubs!!

It certainly wont feel right for Dublin when they go behind and panic sets in. This Dublin outfit will be hit with an intensity level they have never experienced. Tyrone in a final, christ i'd worry for any Dub out on that field of play. They will know what a battle is as Tyrone will go hammers and tongs. Tyrone will be fighting for their very lives, for the memory of loved ones, for the people of their county. The sage mentality creates a ferocious animal in the red and white Jersey. Up Tyrone.

Same here ... as a fan this is my 5th final in 7 years and bar the first one, I honestly don't think I've been as excited for one.

Yep , we've been panicking now for a while alright. More of the same on Sunday hopefully.
If Tyrone win it won't be because of any panic let me assure you of that.

Yep Mayo brought no intensity to recent finals. They just rolled over. This Dublin team are known to crumble when teams get in their face.

There are probably many reasons for the low key build up to this final. 1. It is way earlier than we were used to.
2. Tyrone already beaten twice in the championship makes it appear a foregone conclusion, unheard of and impossible previously but a reality if the Super 8s continue.
3. Probably not the most popular teams in the country, Dublin because they claim that 31 counties are against them and Tyrone because of their previous, though not lately, their ultra defensive approach.
4. It is also possible that the GAA have killed the goose that layed the golden egg with their overcharging and the extra Super 8 games may be a bridge too far for people in the counties that are not involved.

sure look, we're just going to enjoy the occasion qnd the day in general really and look if we manage to compete it would be a bonus. Expecting nothing but hoping for a miracle. Tyrone rightly hot favourites.
