Well its only a few days now to the All Ireland final and as ever the hurling pilgrims make their way to the big smoke. I have been attending finals for a long number of years and this year will be no different. I have a set routine of places to go and drink and people to meet and I often wonder what others do. I like to land in Dublin about noon on the Saturday and hit to a café for some light brunch before hitting to my favourite pub for the afternoon. I tend not to wear my colours until the sunday. I am keen to hear if others have routines around match weekend. doubleginplease (Limerick) - Posts: 19 - 14/08/2018 11:05:31 2133096 Link 0 |
Drive up morning of final, breakfast in kinnegad and book into Citywest. Taxi into town, for pints. Walk to Croker and watch us loose another final...back to Citywest after to drown the sorrows.. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11231 - 14/08/2018 12:15:45 2133141 Link 7 |
Fly over from England on the Saturday, No colours Saturday either, keep the jersey fresh for match day! Saturday evening have a good feed and then meet up with the relations in regency hotel in 12 and 15, or croke park hotel last year. Roll out of bed around 3pm, quick shower and last nights curry into the microwave. 5 minuet walk to take up my regular seat. Full time, it's another gruelling 5 minute trek to my local where I drink until closing and then the dreaded 5 minute drunken stagger home via the local chipper. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 14/08/2018 13:57:03 2133201 Link 4 |

Its truly wonderful to see the different routines people do on hurling final weekend. I will be travelling down early Saturday morning next to soak in the atmosphere and meet like minded limerick supporters in around stephens green. doubleginplease (Limerick) - Posts: 19 - 14/08/2018 16:49:32 2133291 Link 0 |

All-Ireland weekends are great. Always a decent buzz about town no matter who is in the final. Saturday night is usually a great night out with friends in from all over the country. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 14/08/2018 18:17:39 2133349 Link 2 |
i hope it happens for limerick on sunday too.no disrespect to galway but it is always great to see a famine end. Good luck to all in limerick. nothing can compare to the emotion of your county man climbing those steps and hoisting the liam mccarthy cup high.it is right up there with your first child! perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 14/08/2018 18:20:54 2133353 Link 0 |
And friends in from all over the world...I was in NYC before the 2016 final for work and flew back on the friday before the game...couldn't believe the amount of mayo Jerseys on the plane. All Ireland weekends are unreal and if someone asked me the meaning or moment I feel Irish most...it's watching your team parade around Croke Park on All Ireland final day followed by the national anthem... in that moment there is NOWHERE else in the world I'd rather be. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11231 - 14/08/2018 18:46:55 2133361 Link 3 |
Always enjoyed a trip out to Kilmacud for the sevens on Saturday afternoon. There's a good buzz around there and always a good pinting session to be had. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 14/08/2018 19:14:28 2133364 Link 0 |

I totally agree having been away for a semi final in 07 and returning home that week to Shannon airport. There was a great buzz on the plane and a few wearing the green limerick jersey. There is something very very special when your county parades behind the band on final day. I have just received my ticket for sunday also so all good.
