The U-21 Venue

(Oldest Posts First)

This year we have seen a semi final and now the final taken out of Thurles for the so called traditional U-21 Hurling final , while when Antrim reached the final, it couldn't be switched to a more neutral venue, even the semi-Finals were held their which resulted in an unreasonable journey,
Interesting how we can switch it now!!

I'd assume its been taken out of Thurles because Tipp are in the final this year, we'd have had home advantage. The year Antrim played there, they were playing Clare in the final.

And fwiw, I don't think the final should have been played in Thurles that year. I remember in 2010, when Galway had to play Tipp in Thurles in the final, there was justified criticism of the game not being moved to neutral venue. It was a fair criticism, neutral venue is better. We're not stuck for stadiums at this stage.

Has to played somewhere we have no divine right to play it in thurles.
Since Limerick missed out on at least one potential big game this year if they had made Munster Final only right it gets a big game.
Thurles has had 2 big round Robin games with Tipp involved a neutral game for Cork v Waterford, both provincial finals played there, an all Ireland quarter final and semi final plus a minor quarter final. Add in 3 games for our footballers.
All that irkes me about this game is the throw in time. Why not a Saturday evening why the sudden change to a Sunday evening.
Bring on the rebels and let's hope this Tipp team redeems itself proving they are a good team some fine hurlers on that team who will be breaking into Senior next year or two.

That's a HQ issue. They made the decision to have all finals that didn't involve Tipp in Thurles about 7 years ago.

They shouldn't have asked Antrim to travel that far for both games but at least it was motorway all the way.
