The ones who made fools of themselves are the national committee who didn't even give Mcgrath one of the four jobs on All Ireland day after his great service. Make no mistake the key event here was the Limerick Kilkenny match. Some people have to find scapegoats for any defeat jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1457 - 09/08/2018 07:15:23 2131098 Link 0 |
He has only got two replays. Never the first game. valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1890 - 09/08/2018 07:34:12 2131100 Link 0 |

So, he only reffed 2 All Ireland final replays, an U21 final, a minor final and has a sense of entitlement to carry on like this!!!! At least the Westmeath contingent on here are defending their own!!! Torcaill (Australia) - Posts: 204 - 09/08/2018 10:18:41 2131136 Link 0 |
Be careful there is another thread on here about abuse. James McGrath has beeb referred to on this thread as a fool and childish. May be not be abuse but a personal character assessment that usually leads to the hype bar going up. An opinion is saying he is wrong to step away based on the decision not to select him. He made a decision to leave the panel based on his believe that the authority showed a lack of confidence in him. That is his prerogative whether you feel he is right or wrong. James McGrath has not abused anyone that I know of including any of the posters on here. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2660 - 09/08/2018 13:41:29 2131211 Link 0 |
do you have any proof of this? I suppose if Limerick lose the AI which I hope they dont, you will blame KK again, its no wonder KK posters left this site

No harm, if he is petty enough to resign and throw his toys out of the pram if things don't go his way it would lead me to believe he could hold a grudge against players/teams over past slights or events which is an awful trait to have as a referee. Good career, good luck to him. LarryOBrother (Wexford) - Posts: 409 - 09/08/2018 16:26:18 2131266 Link 1 |
Mcgrath was favourite to get the All Ireland after the match no less than Brian Gavin said he was a certainty. Yet he never got another game. guess who is CCCC chair????????

Brian Gavin's opinion on referee appointments hardly matter at this stage, do they? As far as I know, he's no longer involved and would be relying only on hearsay. midlands (Westmeath) - Posts: 543 - 10/08/2018 09:52:52 2131451 Link 0 |
And where is the Croke Park head of the Referees from?????

Don't forget Jimmy Cooney. They love him down in Clare.

To be fair he had a shocker in that match. I was at it, had Limerick lost they would have picked several decisions they felt went against them also. The one that stands out was the blatant foul on Donnelly that would have drawn it level but Limerick went up the field and scored. Coming out and complaining is an insult to those who were selected.

GAA needs to expand ref pool and include all 32 counties,it is a joke that James Owens is in charge. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1669 - 10/08/2018 14:57:47 2131558 Link 1 |
the chair of the referees appointments is a Meath man,we have moved on in Kk,that match the qf is history,Limerick were deserving winners,

That same Meath man's father was from Westmeath. His uncle and cousin played football for both Westmeath and Leinster.

Your own county man Brian Gavin said after the game in a long piece in the Irish Examiner that Mcgrath ruffed the match brilliantly and was now clear favourite to ref the All Ireland. But what would he know about riffing?

Ah jobber your defense of McGrath is nearly as pathetic as McGrath's behavior at this stage. His attitude over this issue shows how arrogant he is. Also there are photos all over his Facebook page of him celebrating with the Galway players after winning their all Ireland last yearm it would be totally inappropriate for him to referee the final. His argument of "friends and family" thought I should have got it is laughable junior infant stuff 890202 (Wexford) - Posts: 1278 - 11/08/2018 18:07:36 2131818 Link 0 |
Galway hurlers must treat James Owens with respect. It is vital. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2519 - 11/08/2018 20:30:26 2131928 Link 0 |
Don't start that nonsense, himself and Kelly got loads of big games through the years and to be fair some would argue too many based on their ability so the 'traditional' s@ite is exactly that........sure they gave a carlow man with virtually no big match xperience an all Ireland semi final this year, I don't think this has anything to do with him not being from a traditional county as you put it.......

I think the proper word is reffing. Brian Gavin now retired, was one of the top referees in the country. I also regarded your own Barry Kelly as a good referee who handled the game impartially, regardless of the counties involved. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1741 - 12/08/2018 12:16:12 2132165 Link 0 |
