Even on the hurling side you had Damien Hayes on Newstalk saying Galway are as good as the great Kilkenny teams we have seen in recent years...bold statement.

A lot of big and small ball to be played yet...."
Fair point. As a dual fan funny enough I find our football fans by and large quiet. Because of the nature and speed of game hurling fans tend to be more on edge. Only my experience. As you say we are a coming team but IMO need to build big game form at the business end of the championship something ye and Dublin have by the bucket load. Our hurlers can play with a sense of freedom with the monkey off the back but no guarantee of glory with the likes of Lim and Cork showing serious form plus the Cats will have a big say no more than Kerry in football.

Galway currently 3rd favourites for the football AI at 9/1.

5/4 for the hurling AI. Can't find a combo anywhere. What are the maths on a double.. 12/1?

How shrewd was that?
Can't see Galway winning Sam either by the way but I'ld give them every chance of beating anyone bar Dublin in Croker."
Not very shrewd at all! But that's not my point. Wasn't shrewd of mayo to be beaten by galway last year and yet they came alive in Croke Park.
I genuinely hope I'm wrong but I still think they have a job to win a Connacht title and get to a semi
There's no doubt they've improved dramatically tho to this point

Only four teams now left who can do the double.

Galway, Cork, Clare and, of course, Carlow!

I'm reserving my judgement on Galway until they play on the big pitch in Croke park.
Hurlers look a proper outfit.

After yesterdays performance I won't be putting much money on the double although I would expect footballers to improve in Croke Park

Yes Galway might be the best hurling team out there at the moment, but they are a long long way off any of the great Kilkenny teams of the last 15 years. When Tipperary beat Kilkenny off the pitch in the final of 2016, it was said that they would go on to dominate hurling over the next few years, and look where they are now? So much and all as I am excited about the hurlers prospects of retaining Liam, we have a long long way to go be even mentioned in the same breath as previous great Kilkenny teams. As regards the footballers, they are steadily improving, but still a long way off being genuine All Ireland contenders.

Too early to know who will be in the shake up for Sam, in 1 group we will have Galway, Kerry/Cork and 2 qualifiers, the other group will be Dublin/Laois Donegal/Fermanagh and 2 qualifiers, it would be a complete fluke if Tyrone, Mayo, Monaghan and Cavan avoid each other in round 3 provided they win their round 2 games but if they do make it to the super 8s it would be hard to pick the eventual All Ireland winners, you'd expect Dublin and Kerry to make it out of the group stages so its anybody's guess who will get the last 2 places. (I haven't forgotten the beaten provincial finalists). As for the hurling it's hard to look past Galway for 2 in a row, Clare and Cork would be in with a shout but for me it's the Tribesmen for two in a row. Galway will be celebrating but a double I doubt it

Why are Mayo people commenting on Hurling?

To be fair, I'd have far more time for the hurling folk of Mayo than I would for their football counterparts. Nothing top hurling people in the likes of Toureen and Ballyhaunis

Ignore ignorant people!

As for the question... I would doubt it. Im not convinced the footballers will go all the way. The Hurlers however will be very hard beat.

The_DOC and Yew sure that is probably because Mayo hurlers and Galway hurlers are of little threat to you if you know what I mean. I am dual with slight allegiance to football and from my experience Galway football fans tend to be a lot quieter than our hurling fans. I can only put it down to the game type with hurling faster, more exciting etc. As for this thread unlikely but one can always dream. Hurlers look the real deal with footballers steadily improving.

Yes...familiarity breeds contempt. We all like the teams that don't pose a threat to us....remember Quigley scoring a goal in the hill and The hill cheering as he celebrated. Great fun.

So THAT would explain why I've started to like the Mayo football team in the last few years!

Sorry bud. Couldn't resist and in fairness, you walked into that one. :)
