Monaghan For AI??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I have to say "fair play" here to mayotyroneman.
Stuck to his guns on Super8 outcomes - in isolation at times.

Ah Waynol, the Farney juggernaut is heading to Drumcondra and maybe, just maybe, we'll have to remind you of the last time we turned up at Croker to play Dublin.

Monaghan. For. Sam.

lost to fermanagh.

the handiest of draws in the qualifiers (leitrim, carlow and laois............please zzz)

snuck past kildare.

bottled it big style against a kerry team you never got the hype about full of kids.

and then beat galway who where already through focusing on next week??

Monaghan are the least likely out of everyone left to win it now imo"
Wayno, on a morning like this when we're still smiling about getting to our first semi final since the 80s, you can get lost with that negativity.

Hand on heart I don't see anyone outside Dublin winning the all Ireland, but I don't see any reason why we should be looked at as lesser than any of the other remaining teams. No reason why we should have any fear of either possible semi final opponent. The Fermanagh defeat has long been washed out of our systems at this stage, yet you'll still get detractors bringing it up. Longford beat us a couple of years ago, on that basis we had no right even being in the super 8s. Teams can recover and bounce back to you know.

Good man wayno...a team in the last four having dismantled the much desired Dublin Kerry final..an Ulster team now guaranteed to be in the final!

Wonder who Monaghan would like to see prevail today?

I think they were impressive in the work rate and total commitment shown, in spite of getting a raw deal from the ref, especially in the second half. A tougher mental attitude than the Kerry match . Every chance of the final if they turn up for the semi.

Monaghan for Sam well why not ? This season has reminded me of the 1992 season, Donegal shocking poor in semi final and rope a doped Dublin , Dublin are favorites after that very little between other contenders Donegal without McBreaty are brought back to the pack , in Conor MCManus Monaghan have the best forward of his type since Bernard Brogan , I'm backing the Dubs for Sam obviously however would not write Monaghan off some of us are old enough to remember 1992 pain like that never leaves you

Replying To mayotyroneman:  "So then Kerry are gone and Monaghan are still standing...I rest my case ..this kerry team were at best outsiders all year..can't understand what all the hype was about"
I still stand by what I said. It didn't click for them this year but they look the best bet to challenge Dublin and knock them off their perch. Galway, Monaghan, Tyrone and Donegal- I just don't see the beating of Dublin in that group. Of course I could be wrong but the only way Dublin lose this year is by a sub-par performance and history tells us this Dublin team don't do sub-par. I can't see where the extra gear will come from for their opposition.
The Super 8 didn't really tell us anything we don't already know about Monaghan or Galway. Fantastic teams. They have some kinks in their armour but if Dublin didn't exist they would be major challengers for AI. I'd love for either of them to do it but the reality is that Dublin do exist.

100% correct wayno but harsh all the same. Like the monaghan poster above said, they're celebrating making a semi final, something 28 counties will be looking on enviously at.

If as you say, Galway were focussed on next week (And I think you're right again), then Dublin do need to be wary. Remember Donegal being written off in 2014 because they struggled against Armagh in the quarters, only for their players to come out and say that Armagh's name was barely mentioned in the build up to that game. They were 100% Dublin focussed.

Some Dublin fans have said since that the only way for anyone to beat them is to take that exact same approach Donegal did. We'll maybe Galway have done that! Yesterday's performance suggests they have.

It may not be enough, but then again it might just be!

beat Monaghan in the Semi Final Dublin will
beat Galway handy enough and go on to win
4 in a row

that was your all ireland.. just look at the celebrations afterwards. Dublin went on to lift the tin and if they don't, galway will

It was the supporters that were overly excited by coming onto the pitch, not the players. If you bothered to listen to any of the reaction from the players or management, they're not at all surprised to be in this position and are already focused on the semi final. Our all Ireland me hole.

Great to see the supporters Invading the pitch after the match. Part of the GAA that never should have been done away with . Would love to see Monaghan supporters Invade Croker after winning Sam. Think they will do if that happens

Waynol,
What's the best way to get onto the Croke Park pitch to celebrate "lifting the tin"?
Last time we did is was '05 league finals day, and I was accompanied onto the pitch from the Cusack stand by a number of Armagh Gaels there for the next match. Ojus day altogether.

Always best to sort out logistics in advance.
All tips gratefully received

Would be great to see Monaghan winning Sam this year; play great football. They would deserve it now.

ye well when dont have a pick if 1.2 million thats what happens were more like a big club team than a county team some clubs in dublin have the same population as monaghan but we will never look down our nose at another counties progress but dublin are different they are bandwaggeners 3 people on hill 16 before hefferan took over in the 70s 3 people its football this decade soccer the next rugby the next and so on its the only place in ireland you will see a cricket ground but with the country teams its either football or hurling and that will never change for us to get to an all Ireland is probably a bigger achievement than dublin winning 5 in a row
