I am looking to see what parishes/villages/townlands in Ireland play Hurling only? Past hurler (None) - Posts: 736 - 21/05/2018 11:42:41 2102598 Link 0 |
Basically most of Kilkenny. In fairness there are a few in a number of counties I imagine where Gaelic Football is considered the root of all evil.

Nonsense. Between today and Thursday, at least 21 clubs in Kilkenny will be playing football fixtures at various levels. That's half of all the clubs in Kilkenny. http://kilkennygaa.ie/fixtures?countyBoardID=15&daysAfter=12&nosort=1&orderByRank=Y Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2478 - 21/05/2018 12:52:36 2102630 Link 1 |
I'd hazard a guess that most Kilkenny clubs at least enter a football team.

Oulart the Ballagh in Wexford is one. Rathnure used to have a junior football team, not sure if they do or not anymore. All other clubs are dual, with the exception of Wexford town clubs who are hurling/football only but you can play both games if a player in the town. james2011 (Wexford) - Posts: 602 - 21/05/2018 13:34:34 2102641 Link 0 |
I stand corrected. More of a jest comment. My point is some hurling dominated clubs will do anything to prevent football getting currency (my own county included).

Ballycastle, Dunloy and Glenravel - all dual clubs in the mens. The rest are Hurling only.

Yet they couldn't be bothered fielding a team for senior couhty football and eveb worse they are allowed to do so. Do they even have a minor football team ? Galwayjoe86 (Galway) - Posts: 258 - 21/05/2018 13:57:09 2102649 Link 0 |
Most of Limerick would be or was dual at some point. m_the_d (None) - Posts: 1099 - 21/05/2018 13:59:29 2102650 Link 0 |
Clare have never had football in Sixmilebridge and Clonlara,Feakle, Ogonneloe, and lots more up east Clare. PeggyShippen (Limerick) - Posts: 300 - 21/05/2018 14:03:17 2102651 Link 0 |
I'd say that is hard enough to define. Plenty of Hurling only clubs but there will also be a football club covering their parish. example in Tipp is Ballybacon/Grange (Hurling club) and Ardfinnan (football club). Between the two clubs they cover the 3 parishes of ballybacon, Grange and Ardfinnan. himachechy (Donegal) - Posts: 293 - 21/05/2018 14:03:57 2102652 Link 0 |
There's a good bit of hurling in west county Meath, there's no significant absence of football in the county but you'd have a few places where say one town/village has a hurling team but no football team and a nearby town/village has a football team but no hurling team. The three Ards clubs in Co Down don't play any football at all. We dabbled in it for a while but not for a long time. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 21/05/2018 14:07:06 2102655 Link 0 |

Kilflynn/Abbeydorney are two parishes in Kerry that are hurling only. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 21/05/2018 15:13:05 2102682 Link 0 |

Yeah North Antrim in the hurling but South West in the Football given there are only them and Dunloy in North Antrim who play underage football - Ballycastle don't have juvenile teams so only play in the All County Leagues at Senior.

Toreen are the only all-hurling club in Co. Mayo, although they are quite close to their great rivals in Ballyhaunis (dual club) and several hurling outposts in West Roscommon. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 21/05/2018 16:12:42 2102713 Link 0 |
Bothered? They play inter-county football at their level. They lost in to Meath in the All Ireland Junior Semi-Final last year: http://www.kilkennygaa.ie/news/read/id/2039 And you a Galway man sneering at football in Kilkenny. Why are Galway playing senior hurling in Leinster? Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2478 - 21/05/2018 18:46:19 2102763 Link 0 |
