Flags actually!!!
You look back at those fantastic photos from the decades gone by of grounds and terraces covered in such colour.
There's a great one from the 1997 final with the Kerry supporters on the hill in Croke Park, the place is just a sea of Green and Gold flags and flares going off.
I wonder why that's gone from the GAA, is it because of the newer phenomenon of wearing supporters jersey's and county gear, are we all happy to just wear that and not bring the flags anymore?
I think it's something that should be brought back big time.

Loved the flags, always remember watching Down in the early 90's and they always had flags, amazing colour.
The wooden sticks were against health and safety, I had a flag that was passed down from my grandfather and I was going into Croke Park as a youngest and were told we could get in with the flag due to H&S. my father had to rip the flag from the stick - very upsetting as it had great sentimental value. Now I have seen flags in stadiums with sticks so I god knows.

The previous decade when everything was great with the GAA.
I wish for noughties again when it was brilliant.
In the noughties I wished for the nineties
In the nineties i missed the eighties the most

You see where this is going.

Slightly dangerous? as in the drunks, coke heads? or the clown who used the blow the whistle when other teams had the ball?
I jest Mes, you are right though, the hill has lost something. still great craic (not in it very often to be fair) but not as great as it was. Why is that? Sunshine supporters? lack of excitement?

Sounds like H&S gone mad if you ask me, GAA crowds are hardly going to start riots with each other using bits of bamboo sticks.
Yeah Down always brought that amazing colour even if you look the colour footage of their supporters in the 1960s. I suppose the red and back was very distinctive so it stands out even more.
Although it was tough to take, I was watching down on the Armagh fans flooding onto the pitch after the 2002 final and that was also a wonderful sea of orange and white, it was quite spectacular.

Ground hurling.
John Mullane's bald head.
John 3:7
Respect for opponent (i.e. not the constant jarring, shouldering, one-upmanship, etc)
Respect for referee
Players trying to win the ball not win frees
Niall Patterson's gut.
Knock-out system.
John Power's red hair.
Conor Hayes / Brian Lohan helmet.
Ciaran Carey's vein about to pop.
Farmers/etc being able to commit to inter county hurling.

Above all, an active and vibrant club scene. Nothing makes me sadder.

100% Pitch Invasions.

Some of the greatest spectacles of all.. I always remember galway 1998 invading the pitch.

However I do understand for players it must have been torture not getting to celebrate with team mates.
I heard Michael donnellan saying about 98
"It was nearly a half hour before I met the lads after the full time whistle"

When we'd often bate Dublin and Westmeath never bate us, Sean Boylan on the sideline down on one knee, Colm O'Rourke's knee bandage and the Lyons Den:(

A sideline kick from the ground sailing over the crossbar.
Beating an opponent with a good old fashioned sidestep.
Knockout championship.

Michael O Hehir on the big day.
Paper hats and lads on the roof of Croke Park on big days.
Buying ice cream and sweets on the steps in the stands.
Fellas getting lifted shoulder high after Munster finals and AIs. Just doesn't seem to happen anymore.
Maybe we're a bit less innocent. Mores the loss.
