Well for starters, Kerry were making the same noises at the beginning of the league by beating a donegal team by a point. Thing is that this Kerry team are not setting the world on fire since then. When you take into account that the average age of the donegal team that day was 23, you would have to wonder how good they really were. Similarly on Sunday, Mayo drew albeit quite luckily with a donegal team made up of experienced players who lacked match fitness and also without mark mchugh. Paddy McBrearty was not at full strength either. We did very well to go 3 up in the second half after the start mayo made. It is worth mentioning mayos start too. If a team get the upper hand as they did in the first 10 minutes and don't build on it, i.e. put the match to bed, then there is something seriously wrong here. I would say v Galway you will have a very different team to cope with than donegal and it would be fair to say that it will be a much truer test from a team a lot more developed and seasoned than us. I think we can improve for sure because our experienced lads will be upping their training big time and the other lads will have come on leaps and bounds too. I think that if we develop more of a killer instinct in the last 15 minutes we will do a lot better. I also looked at the performances of the Osheas last Sunday and wonder will they last another year of this. v Dublin or Tyrone or even Galway, I am wondering how they are going to fair. They were very anonymous at times during the game. Big question, can they improve? I don't believe they can. I hope to see mayo later in the year in Croke park for what they bring in terms of drama to the championship. But I am not sure they can continue copying and pasting their passion and performances of recent years. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 27/03/2018 14:24:39 2088729 Link 1 |
Injured not really had much luck in this regard since making a big impression in the 2016 championship. Not sure what his current status is or when he will be back either.

I'm not saying Donegal were at full strength and i don't doubt that they will improve but I still don't see that Mayo won't be a completely different team come Summer. To come away with the desired result from a ground that has been somewhat of a fortress for Donegal was still pretty impressive never mind the performance. Bear in mind we were missing Harrison, Barrett, Higgins, Vaughan, Keegan and Cillian. Seamie O Shea and Parsons are only just back from long term injury and are patently unfit and Aido was carrying an injury. On the reverse of letting a first half lead slip did it not show great character to come from three points down, with a few minutes to go, to draw. Anyway I wouldn't pay much heed to league form at this stage as most of the teams just do enough to stay up, apart from the likes of Dublin with their wealth of talent and Galway who wanted to find out where they were against the top teams. One way or another it will be an interesting Championship both in Ulster and Connacht and only time will tell how we both fare.

I said it before the only team I think can dethrone the dubs this year are Tyrone, I know many wouldn't agree with me but it's just a hunch I have, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2747 - 27/03/2018 19:26:24 2088834 Link 0 |
