no all it seems is you are belittling the achievements and abilities of players on weaker counties who have 0 hope of winning an all ireland and you know it...we have multiple all ireland winners who wouldnt lace their boots

If you read my previous posts- I have said before that Connelly is a great player and would have been in any era - have not seen a better one in the last 6 years.

Thanks mate, very little added to the debate, i dont think its your role to provide loos guesses or commentary on what the intentions of others in their posts may be. Try sticking t the topic at hand,

It is serious arrogance to suggest that a player cannot be rated as great because he played with a weaker team. I'm not old enough to comment on Connor and Early but I can comment on the best forward I have ever seen...Gooch???? No.....Canavan??? No....DECLAN BROWNE! breakingball22 (Louth) - Posts: 419 - 31/03/2018 11:14:29 2089662 Link 0 |
Ya but look at who's trying to make that claim

I think it's pointless even replying to someone who has their head stuck up their ass.To say a footballer isn't great unless he has an All Ireland medal is ridiculous

No one is questioning Diarmuid Connolly as a great player, he will be down as a great player..there is great players that have not won an All-Ireland and i think its ridiculous to say they not considered great just because the team they are on were not good enought to win. To go by All-Ireland wins then to me thats a greatness of a team, not so much for when talking about an individual player tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 602 - 31/03/2018 14:07:19 2089693 Link 0 |

Mayo have over achieved for a long time..forwards have always and seems to be will always be the problem..you say they lost finals they should/could have won so does that take a bit away from Dublins greatness, as they havent beaten a great team?

Why have you changed to talking about Mayo? Were you not ranting about players?

I'll just let these here for you.... ''I don't know.. Surely heavily influencing 3 AI final results in your favour makes you a great player no?'' ''The same Denis who played big parts in winning the AI in 2011 and when introduced turned the game in 2013 setting up BB for a tap in not long after AM's goal.. He also had a good game in the 2015 final...'' ''... and he did all the above in his 30's!! I've never seen a Dublin player improve so much, he went from a fella that looked like he wasn't going to achieve much into being an important part of the most successful Dubs team of all time and can look back at his career and see that he made a tangible difference in winning multiple All Ireland finals for Dublin. There's not many players that can say that'' I don't know.. Surely heavily influencing 3 AI final results in your favour makes you a great player no? Funny though isn't Many wouldn't describe a team as great if they didn't win an AI Even teams that have won a single AI wouldn't be considered great until they won back to backs or won a few titles across a decade. But an individual can be considered great without winning a thing. why (Kildare) - Posts: 142 - 31/03/2018 17:26:18 2089732 Link 0 |
How's that ranting about players? jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 31/03/2018 18:00:03 2089737 Link 0 |
Why does that bother you?

Why? What objective measure are you using, the crux of every single arguement against my assertion is I saw such and such any they were brilliant, that pretty much seems the criteria. That's fair enough, all I am suggesting is that I use an objective measure in relation to an outcome. Why should I accept because you rate such and such a player they are great, it's very likely you could no very little about the game. P.S. that's a really disgusting post mate, why feel the need to say something like that. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 31/03/2018 18:05:28 2089740 Link 1 |
I don't know you mate, so please don't make personalised or generalized comments. Look who are making counter claims, lads from counties who won't get in an arses roar of any tangible success. If this debate has thought me anything, is their is a varying degree amongst individual counties on wha consititutes great in the context of success of counties. For example Dermot Early May be considered a great player in Kildare, maybe in Dublin or Kerry given what they won, perhaps they wouldn't. Nah.. The game has never been played at a higher standard, players have never been as skilful or physically fitter. The best players to play the game exists right now. Tactically/strategically/advanced training methods, the game is far more advanced than ever before in multiple areas. For Dublin to be dominating the game right now is a testament to their greatness. To win as much as they have and to carry the level of consistency across NFL Div 1 and Championship since 2011 when the game is at it's very peak really puts Dublin up there as the greatest team of all time. Fair play to Mayo for competing with Dublin when it matters but when it comes to describing them as great.. nah.. they've had their chances but they've failed. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 31/03/2018 18:20:02 2089747 Link 1 |
