For the very reason you outline. The league is where you can make progress. The championship is the dream of a decent run, a day against the big boys, the colour ( we have that in abundance). Looking forward to locking horns with Laois on Sunday, now that will be akin to a championship game given its importance to Laois joining us in Div3 Blackbog (Carlow) - Posts: 705 - 19/03/2018 09:57:37 2085664 Link 0 |
I see your point but also have to re emphasize that Carlow are buzzing because they've won something. The same way an intermediate club team celebrates. A second tier could be great if only the GAA did it properly.

As a fan of a "weaker" county I am coming around to the idea of a tiered championship. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4241 - 19/03/2018 18:12:40 2085925 Link 1 |
you know Whammo there is something in your suggestion . The idea of progression is sound. i still love the crack at the big boys as a motivation every summer. it is different in Ulster you probably have 5 or 6 top 16 teams. Whereas in leinster you have 2 at best so who would be top 16 this summer 1.Dublin 2.Mayo 3.Galway 4.Roscommon 5. Tyrone 6.Monaghan 7.Donegal 8.Armagh 9. Cavan 10.Cork 11.Kerry 12.Tipperary i am struggling now so 4 from Meath, Clare, Fermanagh.Down, longford, And yes maybe even Carlow. who have missed out? Armagh's Brendan Donaghy the latest to shoot down a two tier championship and offer no alternative. why (Kildare) - Posts: 142 - 20/03/2018 10:13:56 2086133 Link 0 |
The theory here is good but I'd wonder about the practise. Having the top 6 into the playoffs gives a lot of teams a shout but would the teams who are struggling and know halfway through that they have little chance of making the playoffs not effectively give up? We've heard of the more modest teams having players leave one they've lost their opening championship game to go to America for the summer etc. Would the fans turn up for the dead rubbers or would they be played in front of two men and a dog? It's a better suggestion than anything I have but I'd wonder whether it would really work across such a prolonged period. This goes double for tier two teams who have no relegation concerns. Back on topic, well done Carlow on an excellent campaign. Now go finish the job! Kurt_Angle (Dublin) - Posts: 567 - 20/03/2018 11:37:30 2086185 Link 0 |
In 20+ years following Wexford footballers, I've always considered Carlow our main football rivalry, whatever level either of us is playing at. So let me just say... Well Done and congratulations to long suffering Carlow football players and supporters. extranjero (Wexford) - Posts: 375 - 20/03/2018 14:01:16 2086238 Link 0 |
