CARLOW up from basement div in over 30yrs . Have now won 9 league games on trot.
Only lost 2 games in league or chamionship in last 12 months. Both loses against Div 1 opposition Dublin and Monaghan.
i know it is all relative but a great achievement for us who were rock bottom a few years ago

Congrats Carlow

Massive congratulations to carlow gaining promotion for the first time in 33 years to div 3, this has been coming over the last few years they've really put the effort in and its now paying off, they have a strong management team and some excellent footballers now i hope they go on and win the division.

So proud, as I posted on our own page sadly we broke down just outside Drogheda on the way there so the 4 of us had to cheer on from car. Bitter sweet win, can't believe I missed it but delighted to finally be out of division 4

Congratulations to Carlow. Great to see the little teams get a bit of success, it isn't all about the bigger counties.

Fair play Carlow few years ago we were making our way out of div 4 no reason why Carlow can't make similar progress. Important they backed up last summer's performances and they have. Like their manager good attitude could make Leinster final which would be massive for them.

Well done Carlow, congratulations and good luck in Div 3. Antrim can be relied upon to crash, burn and bottle it when teams out it up to them as Carlow did today. Once again all the best.

Just goes to show the merit a second tier championship would have for these teams.

A second tier championship would help them develop further no doubt. And give players a chance to win something.

Dont Agree.
The league has improved its status over the years and has proved a wonderful sprong board for the likes of former Div 4 Teans like Clare and Tipp. Hope we can follow suit.
Usr the league to omprove, playing at higher level.
leave the championship alone. We want our days out against the Dubs and the like.
We have as much chance of winning an all ireland as have 28 other counties. So lrave things alone.
looking forward to possibly giving Kildare a good rattle if we can get that far this summer

You are getting a bit carried away now. You have just been promoted from division 4 and now you say you have as good a chance of winning an all ireland as 28 other counties.

Lets say the top 4 counties in Ireland at the moment are Dublin, Mayo, Kerry and Tyrone (based on last years championship).

Right now you think Carlow have as good a chance of winning the all ireland as say Donegal, Galway, Monaghan, etc.

Of course you dont. I would say you have the same chance as maybe 16 other counties and that chance is currently sitting at zero.

Would it not be better spending your summer playing football in a competition which you might actually have at least a 1% chance of winning.

No
we want to be in the All ireland . Monaghan beat us by 5 points and with a late surge.
We are no world beaters but every county deserves a go at the big boys

Based on last year's championship you say Wally. Would you not think Carlow rank higher than Tyrone then based on both performed when up against champions Dublin ;) !!

Of course you're right we've no chance of winning the all Ireland but we've a sniff of a Leinster final appearance. That hope/belief/dream is what keeps us going.

As regards the counties you mentioned there, I would say the gap between them and Dublin is greater than the gap between them and Carlow. Does that not indicate they should be grouped in with Carlow rather than Dublin?

A second tier competition simply won't work. It's been tried before and most players simply don't want it. Not only will players not train for it, they won't even play in it. I remember one year Carlow beat Wicklow in the Tommy Murphy Cup and then couldn't field a team in the semi final and had to give a walkover. Compare that to the current attitude and approach of Carlow players, and others in other division 4 teams. Also, look at the Christy Ring Cup. I attended the semi final of it last year when Carlow played Wicklow. There was about 300 people at it and most seemed to be family members. This was for the semi final of an all Ireland competition! A second tier competition will see standards fall with the gap with the top teams becoming even greater meaning that it may never be bridged and football will become like hurling with a dozen or so elite counties and with the gap to the lower tiers being completely unbridgeable creating a football elite which would not be cyclical.

Congrats to the Scallion Aters. Their hurlers are also going well with Div 2A Final against Westmeath. Shows what can be achieved in a small county.

I remember a Tommy Murphy Cup game where Carlow only had 15 players and had to play the sub goalie at corner forward... they actually won (and the goalie, James Clarke, got a point I think)... which shows you how much Wicklow also cared for the competition!!... the second tier knock out won't work... the league is a four-tiered thing we already have... I'd rather actually if the league went home and away, over 14 weeks and the All Ireland was run off concurrently... as straight knock out, over 6 rounds... Say a 24 week season (to give a few rest weekends/make room for cancellations)... February-August, with the rest of the year only for clubs and colleges...

If a second tier wouldn't work , then why the joy of qualifying from the 4th tier. The league is a super competition as it rewards progress and punishes failure. As a laois fan it's been my favourite competition for years. I just wish it was in the summer.
