No All Star for Stephen Cluxton has to be the worst decision in the history of the awards, the man didn't put a foot wrong all season from the very first league game to the All Ireland final with unbelievable saves great catches and kick outs he's been the best by a mile , we played Mayo in the league this year Clarke was brutal his kick outs were a joke , yes he's a good keeper but when his team needed him most this year he kicks the ball over the side line, Cluxton has been clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 03/11/2017 20:09:51 2060233 Link 3 |
I'd have plumped for Cluxton alright. Clarke did have another good season. I think Cluxton gets more heavily criticised when a few things go wrong for him. Last year v Kerry his 5 minute spell before half time was treated very harshly. I think he was penalised this year for the first half against Mayo where you struggled a bit more on your own kick out. He still had a good game though and made a huge save in the second half. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4226 - 03/11/2017 20:22:48 2060237 Link 1 |
I can't believe the decision on goalkeeper. Cluxton has had a great season- an appalling omission. Don't think he'll give a toss but you'd wonder what these journalists were thinking. Mystifying. avonali (Dublin) - Posts: 1974 - 03/11/2017 20:30:00 2060239 Link 1 |
Ah come on take off the rose tinted glasses - he has not been as sharp as previous years - his league campaigner was not exactly star studded and he had wobbles a various stages against Kildare Tyrone and Mayo when the pressure came on - personally I think the omission of Lee Keegan is a bigger issue - and before you accuse me of spiteful ness or anti Dublin I think a Dublin player however should have got player of the year it should have gone to Janes McCarthy

Andy Moran well deserved player of the year. Cluxton should have got the goalkeeper All Star. Clarke was nowhere near him. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1903 - 03/11/2017 20:32:43 2060242 Link 1 |
Only for Jason Sherlock running in and telling Cluxton not to kick long, he would have cost Dublin the All-Ireland.

Tough on Cluxton. Clarke had a lot more to do this year so probably why he got it. Not the fault of Cluxton. Bit harsh picking one kickout in the final and saying he let them down. Daft comment. Not much in it .

They were some bad one years ago with canavan getting mcguigans and one of shefflins all stars in particular coming to mind but after watching it this year it's safe to say I'll never watch it again.

Other than that you're happy enough?

Both great keepers but on balance I think Clarke had best year. Think cluxton is hampered by having so little to do in most games

Is it true that cluxton hasn't got an all star since 2012? If that's true then the whole thing is a pure disgrace. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 03/11/2017 20:55:09 2060254 Link 1 |

Don't sweat it clondalkindub, he knows how good he is and I wouldn't say he gives a shite. Well done to Andy Moran and Con O'Callaghan, and all the lads who got an All-Star, for what its worth. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 03/11/2017 21:00:23 2060258 Link 4 |

No problem the rest is fair enough , actually Tom Parsons should be in ahead of Cavanagh. The Cluxton one is the worst call ever. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 03/11/2017 21:10:16 2060266 Link 1 |
That's a tough one alright. Team wins All Ireland v Player of the Year. Perhaps a hint there?

Best PLAYER gets PLAYER of the year not the best TEAM. Just because your team didnt win AI dosent mean you dont deserve it.
