The 4 in a row

Replying To Jack_Goff:  "Between 1997 and 2007 six different counties won leinster. It's no coincidence that meath are not the only team incapable of beating Dublin in the province. 4 other competitive counties are also miles off.

When we are resorting to putting Kildare on a pedestal who got hammered this year you know things are bad. They haven't won a provincial title in 17 years. the reality is Dublin are at a professional level while everyone else is either amateur or semi professional. It's not a level playing field.

If meath had the resources and player base of Dublin, and Dublin had the resources and player base of meath the results would swing.

Meath would hammer Dublin annually and Dublin would win nothing. the gaa has become an embarrassment. Anyway, enjoy winning 8/9/10 in a row lads because I know one thing for sure. I'll not be going to anymore leinster championship games. And judging by attendances in the province, the vast majority of leinster gaels are already boycotting the province. Bring on the hurling."
So if Meath were Dublin and Dublin were Meath, Meath would be good at football.

And people wonder why Meath football has fallen of a cliff.

Ahh if me Auntie had testicles she's be my uncle. Stop whingin'- Dublin footballers have jobs or are studying.. Stephen Cluxton is a teacher; Jack McCaffrey is training to be a Dr. I don't know how Philly Mac has even time to play football given all his business interests.

If you're going to whinge at least try to tell the truth. As for Meath, didn't one of your great midfieders have a nice little houseen built for him as an enticement to come back and play for his county? There was plenty of money available to Meath GAA - that's when it prided itself on being a great footballing county.

Time for a visit to the excuse luck dip:

https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/15m-gaa-funding-boost-for-east-leinster-project-34934104.html

The GAA are to invest an extra €1.5m for an initial three years for coaching and games development projects in the main commuter counties outside Dublin.
The additional funding from central level has been agreed for Louth, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow which will put more coaches on the ground in an effort to cater for the rapid population growth in these areas.
But Leinster Council chairman John Horan also acknowledged that Dublin's success in the province - 11 senior football titles in 12 years - was also a factor.

Dublin GAA has in excess of 60 full-time coaches, part-funded by the €16.5m they have received from central level over the 11-year period since an initial €1m per year was made available to the GAA from the Irish Sports Council for a special project to boost participation across the capital.
But Dublin County Board and the clubs themselves have also made significant financial commitments to keep that coaching network in place and that model is expected to be replicated in some of the bigger urban areas in the commuter belt.

The 'east Leinster project' will be overseen by former GAA president Liam O'Neill and will be run by the provincial council.
Leinster Council are already advertising to set up a panel of games promotion officers in these counties.

"This is an attempt by Leinster Council and the GAA at central level to deal with the urban sprawl outside of Dublin and to try and close that gap that everyone obviously sees at the moment between Dublin and the rest," said Horan.
"We're not going around with our heads in the sand. We need a marketable product to keep sponsors going and we need a marketable product to get supporters to come, you can't have those big gaps that exist between Dublin and the rest. This is an attempt to address that."

The funding is expected to at least double and even treble the number of full-time coaching positions in some if not all four counties but Horan says effective games programmes will have an even greater influence on their plans.

Replying To county man:  "Spot on. Easy cop out for the likes of Meath to blame Dublin for their slide into also rans. The fact that Meath haven't been relevant for nearly 20 years has nothing to do with Dublin.

What more resources do Kildare, Kerry, Mayo, Galway ,Tyrone, Donegal, Tipp, Clare, Roscommon, Westmeath etc etc have over Meath??"
Yep this spot on alright. Thanks for noticing

Why else do you think aul broken record Jack Goff there completely ignored it..

No excuse. Meath let themselves fall apart after having a bit of unparalleled success seen in their history

3 or 4 of their 7 AI's came from one man, and two crops of players one after the other, they thought it would last without putting in the ground work.. no vision, poor club scene, no structures in place.

And now they are getting well beaten by Kildare, beaten by WM and through their own actions fell down the leagues and can't get back up playing against lower tier teams.

But sure it's Dublin's fault...

Jack we will 100% enjoy our success because it means Meath GAA won't be having any and long may it last.

Kildare are now own main rivals in Leinster and deserve to be where they are after having excellent crops of underage Leinster winning teams who have competed with and beaten Dublin teams.

Mayo are the only team who can stop them going on this years form. Seems like Kerry and Tyrone are a fair bit off at the moment and its hard to see that changing in the space of a year. I think we could beat Dublin if everything goes right for us but its hard to see at the moment.

Alot depends on our management team and whether they can be brave and change things up a bit.

However forget the 4 in a row, the 5 in a row will be more important this time next year unless Mayo can do us a favor.

I really enjoyed that article. It is what you call karma. Basically the gaa now admitting they shot themselves in the foot by investing too much in Dublin and not enough in other counties.

And the only reason they are now trying to change that is because it's hitting them in the pocket. Attendances in leinster are now crap compared to the days when it was competitive. The days of 80k in a leinster quarter final are gone. They fear for their sponsorship money because the competition is a joke.

Isn't it funny how multiple counties have to share funding whereas Dublin get their own big pile of money all to themselves.

The way I see it, this new investment might bear fruits in say 10 years. Possibly 20. Then Dublin might only lose every 3 or 4 years rather then every 10. Still extremely boring.

For those taking point at the hurling. I wasnt a fan at all while kilkenny were dominating. But at least they did it without the advantages Dublin have. I didn't see the gaa giving then more funds for 10 years then all other counties combined. They truly earned their success like kerry did in the past in football.

I'm only interested in the hurling now since kilkenny started losing. No interest when they were dominating because it was boring. Exactly like football is now.

Perhaps if you put your time and obvious energy into Meath GAA your county would benefit , you are aware your not exactly being backed to the hilt on here ???
You remind me of King Canute, regardless of posts you stand there trying to hold back the tide , you may be sad and bitter but god I love your perseverance

Its great news for the province to be fair.

I would feel a little hard done by if i was from Munster, Ulster or Connacht.

Especially Munster and the lack of football profile there and how extra coaching etc could benifit games development there, but then that would be hard to administer given every county bar Kerrys main focus in on hurling.

Replying To Crinigan:  "This is nonsense. People aren't stupid. Why should amateur players make such commitments only to be beaten out the gate against a team of professionals who have every possible advantage gratuitously bestowed on them by the GAA?? Why? It's not a competitive sport anymore. And don't give me the Mayo have come close argument. Mayo are as far away as ever from winning an All Ireland and haven't won one since 1951 so don't go lecturing people from more successful counties about throwing in the towel...this is not about throwing in the towel, this is about basic respect for the sport. Millions have been thrown at one team who already had huge advantages and now we have a competition that is a farce.

Again watch the intercounty scene fall apart in the next 5 years. Nobody is going to watch and fewer and fewer players are going to bother taking part.
Just wait for the amount of players from my own county who are leaving the panel, it's a mass exodus and we can't be the only county."
Listen lad way things are your more successful countys management team and panel will be looking at what mayo are doing and will try and implement something similar when they next meet the dubs. So much for telling us to be quiet! Plus your county is getting more money to try and make ye better footballers, with your population and proximity to a large metropolitan area you would think you would be doing better than a 'non competetive' county like mayo??
