The shenanigans at the end of the game last Sunday may have taken some luster off the Dublin win but, having watched teams come and go since the 1951 Mayo All-Ireland winners, I have never seen teams play football at the same level as the present Dublin and Mayo teams. The Kerry team of the Spillane era and the Galway team of the fifties were very good exponents of the football of their eras but could not be compared with our top two today. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 22/09/2017 23:45:38 2049484 Link 1 |
I'm not diminishing anything only mentioning that our minors are after winning 4 in a row and are 24 games unbeaten.

We won the Munster U17 football final this year so that's another 2/3 games to add to the 24 so we were 26/7 games unbeaten, now that's some consistency, and did the cork ladies go in beaten in all those allireland wins? Cos I remember our ladies beating them a few times.

Thanks username and we are of course very proud of our young lads, whether they make the grade at senior level or not is another thing but at least they got a few Celtic crosses in their back pockets. The only reason I mentioned our minors was that a few of the posters were talking about consistency and well I thought our boys deserved a mention is all. Outside of my bias for Dublin I have a great admiration for Kerry Football players and supporters. I was fortunate on several occasions to meet the greatest number 8 of all time, Mick O'Connell. As a young boy he was my hero, Down's Paddy Doherty and Dublin's Des Foley would make up my top 3. Great, great players and great momories CrubeenBlue (Dublin) - Posts: 28 - 23/09/2017 12:12:30 2049551 Link 0 |
And Roscommon beat your U17s in the All-Ireland semi final in Ennis on August 12.

Game was close and had a great narrative (3 in a row vs the breakthrough) but the quality on display was average enough.

It appears so, it's a pity it would have been nice to have had the drive for five. But in a way it lifts a lot of pressure off our young lads and they won't have to listen to all the five in a row hoopla. Heads down now and tear into next year. Well they absolutely should, and it wouldn't be diminishing the success of anyone else, in my opinion.
