The rest of Ireland selection. 'The Lions' if you like would need a fair bit of time together. It would be some game. Imagine adding James O'Donoghue, Colm Kavanagh, Jamie Clarke, Donie Kingston (who always causes the Dubs problems with Laois), Michael Quinlivan, Gary Brennan, Michael Murphy, McBrearty, Conor McManus, Brendan Murphy Carlow etc to the best of the Mayo team! Just naming names off the top of my head. Some game! Jack O'Connor manage them. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 27/08/2017 22:54:58 2038974 Link 6 |
Dublin would still win. At this moment they are a super power. Great sportsmen but problem is people from other counties will soon stop travelling to their matches as the writing is on the wall. Why pay money to see your team getting a beaten at the hands of them. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 27/08/2017 23:02:11 2038979 Link 0 |
Stupid post - if what we saw today from your boys means that Dubs are invincible then I'd be embarrassed - not one hit, no breaking tackles, dubs running around with absolutes freedom - I'd be hiding in a corner coming out with that stuff - one thing I do know is Mayo will not bow down to Dubs - they may and probably will get beat but they won't go down with a whimper like you boys today!

Do you know this it's not a bad idea, might be the only time we see them really tested, I can't see anyone beating them as it is. El_Torro (Tyrone) - Posts: 155 - 27/08/2017 23:10:42 2038990 Link 0 |

The only man to select and manage a team to beat the Dubs is Jim Mc Guinness, it would be a great game to see. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2756 - 27/08/2017 23:24:21 2039005 Link 1 |

Tyrone were poor because they where met by an absolute methodical, incredibly prepared, fit, skillful, tuned in Dublin team. After we got the goal we drained all the confidence out of them by playing keep ball. It must have been so disheartening not to mention it would have made legs so heavy with Dublin keeping players so wide to create the space through the middle. So well prepared for. Tyrone tried to get under our skins by breaking from the parade before getting to the hill. Thinking they would rattle us. Nah, We just annihilated them. Those type of mindgames just will not work. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 28/08/2017 13:00:22 2039265 Link 0 |
Your right. Looking back it was a stupid thing to do. But at that stage croke park was rocking and the atmosphere was electric. 15min into the game and you could hear a pin drop. I genuinely think that we are a much better team than what we showed yesterday, we would never have actually beaten Dublin but I think we are probably 5-7 points worse than them instead of 12 points. We just did not have a plan B whatsoever and what I laughed at the most was throwing Padraig McNulty in for the last 10min at full forward. The lad hasn't seen championship football this year and this is when Mickey decides to try this out!! This is what frustrates most Tyrone supporters. We have this system of play which we stick religiously to and yet when it fails, like it did yesterday and like it did last year against Mayo we have nosecond option and most of the team seem unable to think for themselves. Yes. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 28/08/2017 13:34:05 2039313 Link 0 |
Yes they would and yes Dublin would be capable of beating the rest of Ireland team. Mayo brought them to a replay last year and only just lost that so if they could do that alone then of course a rest of Ireland team could beat them tipp11 (Tipperary) - Posts: 353 - 28/08/2017 13:58:20 2039335 Link 0 |
Where on earth is Conor McManus? The man has torched the Dubs on many an occasion. Best forward in Ireland, Monaghan's system is the only thing that stops him.

I don't know Tom. They were the best teams of their time. Great teams. But 10 years is a long time in terms of scientific development, strategic development etc. If the 3 teams you mention were on a par skill wise, Dublin (or Mayo) of 2017 are stronger, better stamina, better use made of the subs bench etc.
