Kerry v Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Not buying the mayo recovery OR the cute hoorism from our friends in the SW corner of Ireland. Kerry will batter Mayo who have been typically inconsistent. Little recovery time for mayo, Keegan is probably injured and will carry a knock if he plays at all. Kerry have the better forwards, better midfield and will choke the hell out Of The mayo forwards. Can't see mayo getting within 6 points of Kerry. Too much mileage on the Mayo clocks also.

We've beaten 3 div 2 teams by 6 , 11, and 8 points.

Mayo are battle hardened and have ironed out any kinks , and we haven't a clue where we stand at the minute, Mayo by 5 I'd say but I hope I'm wrong."
Gas man give it over, Roscommon are a very average team at best!

It was a good performance today but there are still problems in mayos attack. We will struggle to take scores when the marking is tighter against one of the top teams. Id say kerry will win but i hope we give them a good rattle.

If Mayo don't win the All-Ireland this year Mayo 2011-2017 will have to go down as the best team never to win an all-ireland. 7 semi final appearances, 4 all-ireland final appearances (inc 2 in 2016) since 2011 up to now.

I've never understood the criticism this Mayo team have taken over the years; I have nothing but admiration for them. I don't think they will win the All Ireland sadly, but I will certainly be cheering for them in the semi & the final if they get there.

Bould of you to say that. I no yerrah man. I call it as I see it and Mayo were awesome today and no team in the country could have lived with them with the way they played. been at all of Kerry's games this year which we won "in second gear" according to all the pundits. But what if "second gear" is our max????? Can we drive up the gears???? I dunno the answer but will need a major gearshift to beat Mayo on today's display. No yerrah there!!!

Sadly my county was not at the races today.A young team totally overrun by a seasoned and experienced Mayo.I don't think much can be read in to today's game because Ros were so poor.Mayo won't be running through Kerry's defence at will.

Kerry and Dubs will be favs to go through but Mayo and Tyrone are more than capable to both reach the final

Mayo had a huge motivational factor today and it'll be hard to get their heads in the same place.

Can see Kerry running their midfield ragged and Mayo don't have the scoring forwards to trouble Kerry IMO

Glad to see Mayo there and hoping they win."
Can't see two great semis
Dubs will wallop Tyrone and I'd be very surprised if Kerry don't dispatch Mayo easily. Look at quality of who Tyrone and Mayo have beaten so far, and Mayo lost to Galway.

Made to look that way by an outstanding Mayo side, we have played nobody on the stratosphere as Mayo and it's hard to know how we will react when facing such difficult opposition

Dublin wallop Tyrone? Interesting take. I think it'll be close with Dublin winning by about 3.

Out of curiosity how do you see Dublin tearing open the Tyrone defence to beat them this easily? You say Tyrone have played no one but Dublin haven't been tested either.

Replying To TheUsername:  "Have to say I fancy Mayo to be honest. Kerry haven't beaten a Div 1 team in the championship in I think about three years.

There current reputation is built on beating Dublin by a point in the league final, deservedly so, but Dublin still has sand between their toes and a different beast to the one that will be lining out in three weeks.

If Mayo do the job they did last September on Dublin, I think Mayo will win.

Some facilitating match ups, if Mayo go for the vice defence like against Dublin the Kerry forward line will struggle.

The Kerry half forward line is poor offensively but excellent defensively, but the Mayo half back line is one of the best in the country.

The Kerry back line is poor and prone to fouling, it will be up to them to keep their discipline and not let O' Connor pick them off.

It all comes down to if Mayo can score enough me, they will need goals Vs Kerry. Tough team to prepare for Mayo they can set up a number of different ways."
We only conceded 7 frees inside our own half against Galway, now that wasn't an intense battle or anything but it was a massive improvement for us.

Dublin may well beat Tyrone but I'd be surprised if they wallop them.I think Kerry v Mayo will be close enough even though Kerry are the favourites and as I posted elsewhere, I wouldn't read too much into today's match.

Replying To Donegalman:  "Mayo are training to peak in August and September like the 3 other teams in the competition. It doesnt mater that much what has happened up until now, the real issue is which team is ready on the day. There are no injury issues nor suspension issues. both teams look to be in rude health.

You could argue that Mayo have had a good run that will stand to them in terms of being battle hardened. You could also argue that Mayo are involved in close games against Ross, Derry and Cork because they are around the same standard as them most of the time.

The reality is that this is Mayo's first test in terms of quality opposition. Same goes for Kerry. There would be no advantage nor disadvantage facing either side ahead of this game, except for Mayo in terms of belief, which they are going to need anyway."
That's my point Donegalman, when I say it it sounds like yerra but everything I've said people like your self can see it for your selves.

I take nothing for granted, Mayo should have won last years allireland only for 2 freak own goals.

If we play to our best I believe we can beat any team but we haven't shown anything like our best since our young lads bate the dubs in the league final.

Ye'll show it when it matters. That's why ye have 37 All-Ireland titles.

I think Mayo have a genuine chance. Galways caused Kerry a lot of trouble by running at them and Mayo have plenty of players who can come from deep with pace and run at Kerry.

Key thing for Mayo is for themselves to get the best use out of Aidan O'Shea and I believe to do that he need to play between the half forward and full forward line where he can get involved in the business end but also do the all round work he's good at and also they need to deal with Donaghy, Cafferky or any of the other defenders aren't physical enough for Donaghy I wonder might they try the likes of Barry Moran or Seamus O'Shea on him players who can stand up to him and not be bullied,

I think it will be critical for Kerry mate, if you don't foul and don't give COC opportunities I think Mayo will struggle for scores and Kerry would have one foot in the final.

Personally I think Mayo will go into this game differently then today, I think they will set up very defensively as they did against Dublin as they will worry about your forward line and suck up that space and suffocate. Think they will play with physicality and big hits and hope for frees for COC or actively seek them and whatever else they can pop off will win the day.

I'm expecting a bruising game.

I hope you're right endgame. The only good thing about mayo playing 7 games to our 3 is that fitzmaurice will have got to have seen a lot of them and he'd know them well anyway.

The other good thing for us is mayo will only have 13 days to prepare, I've heard brolly and fitzmaurice and others say that 3 weeks is the ideal gap between games as you'd have a week to recover a week to train hard and a week to rebuild the energy for the game, rochford is going to have squeeze all that into 13 days.

Cute hoors on cue me arse. Old saying (ha, ha, ha) ...he who laughs last laughs loudest!!!! Whether it's Kerry, Mayo or Tyrone laughing in September one thing for sure is that it won't be the hyper-inflated Dubs. Quote me and mark me on that!!!! Media hyped average side in my opinion.
