Andy Moran - Roscommon Fans

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Booing and whistling before and after a shot is part of the game! It adds to the atmosphere! There's nothing like seeing all the dubs on the hill booing and jeering at a player about to score a free!! All they're doing is trying to help their team!! It shows signs of a great player to shut these up! Mayo and Roscommon were as bad as each other and it's nothing to be concerned about in the game

Seemed harmless enough to me and a bit of sport considering where he is from."
I was at the match and I didn't hear any booing of Andy Moran at all. It mustn't have been that bad.

Fermanagh, Kildare and Westmeath games last year booing was quite evident. Again today.

Roscommon fans booing Moran is also a disgrace."
Your singleing out Mayo fans for booing when it's creeping in all over the board. Fermanagh last?year keep grinding your axe lad

Ballaghadereen was in Mayo till landlord changed boundary to avail of lower taxes in Ros. Genuine Ballagh folk honour their Mayo roots. Andy Moran is a legend !!

The story goes that Ballaghadereen was originally in county Mayo until an unscrupulous politician seeking election to parliament decided to have the county boundary moved.

Poor lad, caught on the border,it's not easy, but if his club is in mayo, well it's not Andes fault,.booing is fair bad in football at the moment, hope it doesn't creep into hurling

Andy was born in Mayo General in Castlebar though :) booing is not nice but in fairness Mayo fans were at Roscommon frees too which I don't agree with. There was a woman on front of me from Roscommon (in her 60's) calling Andy every name under the sun....I had to tell her to cop on but then her daughter ate me...I told them they were welcome to Croke Park tried to shake their hands after to which they turned away...real GAA people ;)

Hi Yew Tree, a very dangerous atmosphere there yesterday. I have never experienced that at a GAA match before. Keep safe anyway- better to ignore sometimes.

I did. There was nothing from the Cusack but the kids in the Davin were at it. Mayo fans booed Rochford's decision to take Boyle off as well. There are idiots at every game.

Didn't hear any booing only for ros frees to be honest.if It did happen it's just immature and nonsensical. It was some game to be at. Delighted to be still in it.

Replying To tommy132:  "Booing has crept into GAA these days, usually tho just when opposing team are taking a free or booing the ref but the jeering Andy got today was awful and embarrassing for the Roscommon people that did it..it was booing when he had the ball and if he lost it or kicked a wide and id say they cheered louder than when Roscommon scored..People are saying its cause of his club being in Roscommon but thats nothing new, you would think be over it so must be jealousy or something..and they werent booing his fellow club mate David Drake when he came on.."
Now now Tommy, Mayo fans were at it too except they didn't single out one player, they spread it around!

Andy Moran is a great footballer, everyone in the country knows this and has been a great servant for Mayo football throughout the years. This over-reaction is just unbelievable - booing happens at all games, all the time. That doesn't justify it, but it is part and parcel of the game. Get over it!

There's little to no talk of the cynical kicking, pulling and dragging of the Roscommon full-forward line at all times during the first half. Was sitting behind the goal in the first half and was amazed at the amount of off the ball shenanigans the Mayo back-line was getting away it and it probably continued throughout the second half.

Great game of football and the draw was the right result. Very happy as a Rossie to see that we can be a match for our neighbours on our day and hopefully with a bit more experience down the line we can go a step closer.

I fully expect Mayo to win the replay but you'd never know!

It has emerged that the DOW never made that remark. It was falsely attributed to him by a famous opponent (Dan O'Connell) to belittle him.

Most Roscommon players more than likely born in Ballinasloe, does that make them Tribesmen?

No i'm not. Read this thread and you will see I have criticised Roscommon for booing Andy Moran.

I've no axe to grind with Mayo over Fermanagh last year. The day after the game I posted on this site saying the dive happened, nothing could be done and that it was what it was. I moved on.

I'm merely pointing out that Mayo fans have an element of their support that is constantly booing in every game they go to. Referees, opposition players, opposition scores. It's not pleasant to view.

Out of curiosity are you trying to suggest that Mayo fans booing is ok?

Reason or not, I have to marvel at the type of moron who shouts boo at a lad playing football. They are probably the same ones who get excited shouting in unison to the beat of some idiot on a bodhran.
Eventers.

Fact is though Ballagh was originally in Mayo until a landlord redrew the border for cheaper rates...the local GAA club wished to stay with Mayo.

I believe there is a similar situation in Moneygall?

Those sensitive souls in Mayo are easily outraged...

He was giving it the big one in the FBD league v Roscommon with his badge kissing antics so they were always going to give it back to him.

Its all just a bit of harmless pantomime, i sincerely doubt Andy himself was affected by it.

Mayo fans seem to have something new to whinge about every week, its usually the ref or the venue or the Dublin media etc etc

Ballagh players should be allowed to elect to play for either Roscommon or Mayo.A bit of imagination from the gaa wouldn't go amiss. The Ballagh situation is causing bad feeling between Mayo and Roscommon and that's a real pity.It seems to be worse now than it was.Moran was booed yesterday but he might think better of having kissed the Mayo crest after scoring in a Winter league game in Kiltoom last January. No need for him to have done that.It certainly isn't usual for gaa players to be kissing county crests after scoring particularly in a nothing Winter League game.Great day yesterday in Croker. Both Mayo and Roscommon have magnificent supporters and the replay should be some spectacle.

It was the Roscommon fans in the Lower Hogan Stand near the Davin Stand that were most of the booing at Andy Moran, I was in the Lower Cusack and didn't hear anything from our side of the pitch, in relation to the booing for the last Roscommon free I can tell you that was because it wasn't a free, it happened beside us and the ref got the decision wrong, that was why there was booing for that free, it had nothing to do with the Roscommon free taker or trying to put him off, it was a protest at the ref that he got the decision wrong
