As a long time poster Whammo, I'm surprised you're paying any attention to him. Just ignore him, he's getting over excited.

When Ulster teams were winning All Irelands in the early 90's and 2000's YES many Ulster GAA people were proud and weren't shy in saying it; to be truthful there may also have been a wee bit of arrogance and cockiness there too. Now we know, Tyrone, apart, that Ulster football currently isn't in a great shape overall and our counties are in a bit of a trough. That said, we also aren't behind the door in acknowledging the deserved triumphs of others and wish them well. Dublin and their fans especially deserve their good run after so long without success; my main gripe is that the financial benefits of a successful Dublin are affecting the GAA overall. Good luck to Roscommon and Galway especially. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9706 - 24/07/2017 00:13:07 2022187 Link 0 |
It's as simple as this, there's only 3 teams out of 9 in ulster that the Connaught champions would likely beat, Cavan, Antrim, Fermanagh JamsieMac (Cavan) - Posts: 481 - 24/07/2017 01:33:39 2022197 Link 1 |
Surely the fact that their team has easily advanced to the quarter finals, in addition to being Connacht champions, explains all the posting. We would do that too.

In fairness the word 'Ulster' gets used in championship football more than any other province. There was a couple of posts talking about how many Ulster teams were left in the last 12 so to be fair to the OP, he is only giving a bit of the" now look how many Connacht teams are left". There has been a tendency ,down the years, of fans from the lesser counties using 'Ulster' to describe the success of mainly Tryone (Donegal to a lesser extent and Armagh back a few years before). Success by association perhaps. Tyrone fans themselves call their success 'Tyrone' and don't rely on the word 'Ulster'. Always found it strange. No way would a Meath fan laud the success of Leinster based on Dublin winning and neither would we when Meath were winning AIs. Do your best in your province but once you are in the championship, as prov champs or back door, then your province no longer matters. poguemahone (Dublin) - Posts: 365 - 24/07/2017 09:57:01 2022291 Link 1 |

And only one county will/are capable of winning it in the next 15 years. The same county that last brought Sam west

What can I say. I've a tendency to be a bit tetchy on a Sunday morning, for some unknown reason. It's weird because I've usually had a very enjoyable Saturday evening!

To be fair I think this is a good point, Well done to the 3 Connaught teams making it through to the AI QF. Mayo lucky to through the other side of that Cork game that they 7 points up at one stage and were dragged through extra time to scrape by with a minimal margin. Connacht is the strongest. Especially when you add imposing 'away' trips to London & New York into the bargain. Look at Ros's 'hazardous' passage to the Connacht final this year. Next week-end will be like a Connacht football championship blitz in Croker. Unfortunately, we get to play Kerry.

Imo, it will be Mayo. They were 'lucky' on Saturday alright, when their 'sideline' decided it was wise to remove key starting players when they established a 7pt lead, and did so, without checking out Cork's pulse in advance.

Tyrone, Armagh and Monaghan through to the quarter finals while realistically there will be one Connacht team. Ulster definitely the province with the best football. Leinster on the other hand, with a population of 2.5 million is arguably the weakest. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 30/07/2017 00:06:44 2025632 Link 0 |
