No mentions for the day of the startled earwigs?? :D TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 20/07/2017 23:33:00 2020323 Link 0 |
Both Dublin games from 2005 tremendous atmosphere at both and probably the largest attendance at a quarter final. 2008 versus the Dubs was a real statement from Tyrone. As a neutral Fermanagh v Armagh 2004 was the stand out. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 21/07/2017 09:35:16 2020387 Link 1 |

On a personal note for pure excitement it would have to be 2011...Mayo v Cork. Mayo were told to stay at home and went behind early but fought back. It was the benchmark game and the beginning for this particular Mayo group. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11237 - 21/07/2017 10:32:35 2020430 Link 0 |
One that hasn't been mentioned yet is Dublin v Donegal drawn match in 2002, Eddie Sweeney celebrating in front of the Hill what an atmosphere that day JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 21/07/2017 11:47:22 2020473 Link 1 |
The Donegal Kildare game wasn't actually that great until midway through the second half and extra time. I remember Murphy couldn't start because of injury but then went on and made a huge difference. Big Magnus went on as well of course and did his usual trick of hugely impacting games. For my top 3 best quarterfinals are at number 3 the startled earwigs that was brilliant when gooch scored that early goal and it was like a grenade went off in the hill. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 21/07/2017 12:33:50 2020511 Link 0 |
Down flooring Kerry was great which was followed by Dublin finally getting that win over Tyrone (a big step for the current Dublin team). poguemahone (Dublin) - Posts: 365 - 21/07/2017 12:44:43 2020518 Link 0 |

Ah sorry about that. I was actually at that match. The Louth hurlers were on before the Monaghan and Kerry match.

Just reading through this and there's actually been loads of great one's. Not many recently because Kerry, Dubs, Mayo are a good bit ahead of the rest and have dished out the odd hammering. It's also the place where new era's tend to be launched. Dublin beating Tyrone in 2010, Mayo beating Cork and Donegal beating Kildare in 11. All the real start of teams that have been in the business end since. LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1464 - 21/07/2017 16:40:42 2020644 Link 0 |
2007, that match really was the great escape, still scratching my head about how we managed to get out of it. But Tomas was some man to bomb up and get a point when we needed it most. In fairness that was a great Kerry team at the height of their powers and they just had the cool and composure to get out alive.
