Despite rumours to the contrary it would seem that football is in rude health in 2017. MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 15/07/2017 18:52:02 2017065 Link 5 |
I think last season got less credit than it deserved. The Provincial finals were poor but many of the qualifiers games were pretty good. Teams this year are much more attacking in general too. I think Tipps run last year showed that you can be attack minded and win. Kerry and Dublin I feel are at another level to the rest but there's good depth under that keeping things interesting. Been a great football championship so far, best I can remember in a long time. The provincial championships have been great so far, some great performances from Down, Roscommon, Tyrone and Kildare. We have seen some really exciting games in the qualifiers and we still have to see Dublin and Kerry hit top gear, so some exciting games ahead. No offence to anyone but it's gonna be Tyrone in the allireland final IMO.

There's an oul Derry man who I meet in the park when we walk our dogs. He's the wisest GAA 'head' going and is convinced Tyrone will be in the All Ireland final this year. He bet on Donegal beating Dublin in 2014 BUT then bet on Kerry beating Donegal in the final. He made over 2 grand on his bets and it paid for his holiday that year. I really haven't heard him call a wrong result yet and many of his predictions have been spookily on the button.

A Tyrone Mayo final would be great for the game.

Is it time for the GAA and TV companies to pull the plug on TV coverage for provincial championships, as far as I've witnessed we had 4 exciting games in the 4 provinces Monaghan v Cavan, Down v Monaghan, Galway v Mayo, Roscommon v Galway, that's about it, Munster championship was a drag to watch, Leinster was as bad, I sat down to watch the 4 provincial finals and the Roscommon win was the best game to watch, Tyrone, Dublin and Kerry walked to victory, provincial championships are a waste of time for neutrals to watch, the shock wins are long gone, at least when the quarter finals start we get more exciting closer games riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 17/07/2017 07:24:52 2017814 Link 0 |
There is something about Tyrone the last couple of years that makes me feel very sure they will get to the this year. They are serious footballers and athletes and they won't be a beaten docket going into crokepark against the dubs like every other team, they fear no team although Mayo have proved to be a bogey team for them back through the years. Mayo have a great chance of being in the final why wouldn't they? They haven't hit form yet but then again has anyone else? Pat Spillane made a comment last night that I totally agree with and that is that our Kerry team is not athletic enough to win the allireland and he is correct. We won this years league final with 5/6 young players playing ronan Shanahan jack Barry gavin Crowley jack savage and Kevin McCarthy which only one is playing now ,our midfield is too slow to go up against a Tyrone or Dublin and win. But we'll plod along for now and see what happens. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 17/07/2017 12:01:22 2018020 Link 0 |
Still life in Ulster too. Five out of last twelve teams left. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 17/07/2017 12:38:04 2018063 Link 0 |
Just goes to show that you can't please everyone. First we have people moaning that there are not enough games on terrestrial television & then along comes riverboys who wants the plug pulled altogether. That tells me that things are just about right!! MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 17/07/2017 13:31:47 2018110 Link 0 |
If Tyrone get to the final which could well happen , I cannot see them keeping in to Kerry . They will walk it for me. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 17/07/2017 13:38:48 2018122 Link 0 |
It's Kerry to loose for me. I cannot see any team staying with the forwards they posess at the minute. The pace thing is a bit overplayed I think but is good for a team to have of course but Kerry look like they are dead certs this year whoever they meet imo . catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 17/07/2017 13:44:36 2018129 Link 0 |
To be honest, the Ulster/prov thing is a 'so what' from me. One team from the province has a decent chance of winning it. Donegal an outside chance if they can drastically find some find form. Outside that , we have 4 teams from 4 provinces who can win Sam which is a good balance.

I know. It's being a great championship. Just posters saying after league Ulster had gone backwards and one of weakest province.

How has it been a good championship? So predictable as usual, kerry easily win munster dublin stroll through leinster and tyrone the same in ulster!! Roscommon winning connaught was the only surprise!! The gap is widening the provincial championships are dead esp leinster, we can easily predict the 2018 provincial winners already.. boring championship only gets interesting at quarter final stage.. dec (None) - Posts: 271 - 17/07/2017 15:40:03 2018223 Link 0 |
