Not a great year again for our seniors but Limerick's U21 hurlers have put in 2 serious performances against tipp & Clare in past few weeks & now cork on a roll at the moment.should be a super final at Gaelic Grounds on July 26th.going to matches all my life but the U21 final in 2011 between both counties one of the greatest games I have ever been at.aidan Walsh was incredible that night even though on losing team.we are craving success in Limerick & hopefully the lads can give us some joy in final. hitmanhart (Limerick) - Posts: 496 - 13/07/2017 23:28:32 2016320 Link 0 |
Limerick look to have a super team this year and are definitely the ones to beat not only in Munster but for the All Ireland as well. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 14/07/2017 08:27:08 2016351 Link 0 |
It has to be said Cork were very, very, very, very lucky last night. The penalty itself was dubious as the original foul was outside the box when the Cork lad carried on, over carrrying into the square before going down again. And then for the referee to blow it right up from the resultant puck out was harsh indeed! Great game all the same and Cork will give a brutishly big Limerick a different challenge. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 14/07/2017 08:38:31 2016358 Link 0 |
At this level the game is enjoyable. I remember the full back line of 2000. Paudie Reale, Eugen Mulcahy, Damien Reale - the scores the backs conceded in all their games was very small. 0-9 v Clare, 1-9 & then 1-6 v Cork, 1-9 v Antrim, 0-13 v Galway. Brian Geary centre back. Beat cork in a Munster final replay on the Thursday night, then Antrim in Parnell Park on the Saturday. The Wexford comeback in the 2001 final, the Eoin Foley last gasp penalty in the 2002 Munster Final to draw it, then the way we stole it off Tipp in the replay, 4 points down in injury time and we hit 1-1, then just eased them aside after they had a man sent off at the start of extra time. The side of 2015 were savage in their work rate but the first 15 minutes the other night was hurling above anything I've seen a Limerick team produce. Movement, power, pace - the one thing lacking was finishing as we should have scored 3 extra goals in the first half. Cork last night got out of jail. John Meyler was very emotional at the end but I am happy for him. He has been treated badly in the past by other counties & is a genuine hurling man. Some balls from Dalton to stick that penalty, most lads would probably have blasted it as hard as they could but he placed it brilliantly. Coleman potentially marking Aaron Gillane in the final...... When Limerick take on Cork, I don't believe we have them bate until I'm back home in my Kitchen listening to the wireless and drinking tae. Then once I hear the score I can go for a pint. You just never know with those Rebels ............ slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 14/07/2017 09:08:12 2016374 Link 3 |
Super post slayer.i was at those games back then.both reales from my own club.great fullback line then.its going to be fair tough to beat a county with serious momentum behind em but we have great balance to our team & hoping the potential we have comes through on wed week.cant wait hitmanhart (Limerick) - Posts: 496 - 14/07/2017 11:06:41 2016432 Link 0 |
Tipp have been involved in some great games at senior level the last 8/9 seasons but that Cork Limerick game for me goes down as the best game of hurling I've ever seen. Aidan Walsh also destroyed Tipp U21's that year. Promises to be a great game. Limerick to shade it....maybe after ET! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 14/07/2017 11:24:24 2016443 Link 0 |

it was fantastic they as always they let people on the pitch after the game the limerick players were inundated with autograph and selfie requests and in fairness they all obliged eveyone and if kids wanted to chat with the players, the players always have an extremely polite and good humoured response, and in fairness if anybody said well done the immediate response was thank you. Clare lads even though gutted did the same (harder to do when you lost) janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 14/07/2017 12:03:23 2016469 Link 3 |
Limerick are worthy favourites for this one and should win here. Very similar teams to last year at Pairc Ui Rinn when Limerick were comfortable. A lot of the Limerick fellas are up to the age also whereas Cork U21 Team will be very strong in 2018 as will Tipp. Darragh Fitzgibbon is a massive loss as he was excellent last night v Waterford until sent-off. Frank might pull off one last stroke and get him off !!!`When these teams met in Minor 2014 Limerick were always on top only for Cork to close the gap to 2 late on. I do remember the All-Ireland Minor Final that year however where Limerick were raging favorites and got turned over by Kilkenny. Similar to this U21 Team they also had big wins along the way to that final. Cornerback1977 (Cork) - Posts: 67 - 14/07/2017 19:27:35 2016659 Link 0 |
There has been no complaints from the Deise despite the fact that the amount of extra time was incorrect and the penalty foul was outside the area. Cork are through and good luck to them. This is the maturity required if you are expecting to dine at the top table. However Waterford are on the wrong end of too many of these penalties. Rather the inconsistencies. Not that they were not guilty for some but getting ignored when it is at the other end of the field. This was the case in most of their games this year.

Waterford being Waterford still play with a naivete that other counties dont. With time up a guy shouldn't have a chance of getting anywhere near the penalty area. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 16/07/2017 10:21:45 2017343 Link 0 |
I would not easily write off Limerick in 2018 either. They ran both Tipp and Galway to a few points at minor level in 2015 and for some strange reason they took Eoghan McNamara off long range frees on both days. I am convinced if he had been left on them LK would have beaten one or other of those teams and they were the sides that contested the All Irealand Minor Final later that year.

Agree up to a point but if they put fifteen in the in their own half and defend they are called other things.

I'll be backing limerick. I actually think Waterford were their biggest threat so they got lucky with Cork winning. Would love to see them win the all Ireland too. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 16/07/2017 18:08:22 2017541 Link 1 |
Thanks. We won the All Ireland under 21 2 years ago aswell but it's a senior we are after in all honesty.

Congrats to Limerick. In fairness they were the better Team. The 15 minute spell after half time was crucial for them. Very proud of the way Cork battled throughout and kept going until the better end. The exposure to big games that the Cork Teams at U17, Minor and U21 are getting at the moment will be priceless in the years ahead. Thought Mark Coleman looked the class Hurler on the pitch but tonight all about Limerick. Best of luck v Galway. Cornerback1977 (Cork) - Posts: 67 - 26/07/2017 21:17:47 2024149 Link 0 |
