I feel that if Mayo lose this match that it will be the end of the golden generation and consequently the end of this generation's hope of winning an All-Ireland title. That makes this a massive game for Mayo. There is much too much to lose and so they will bust a gut to win it. Derry will be no push-overs but there is too much at stake for Mayo to not win. Looking for big performances from the likes of Paddy Durkin, Danny Kirby (If he plays), Tom parsons, Colm Boyle,Donal Vaughan, Kevin Mcloughlin , diarmuid O' Connor

All Derry need to do is pump high balls in on top of that full back line.. Very weak and the scores will come...

Just do that and it's game over. Simple as that eh?

What's the story with the Derry management always feeling the need to big up Derry's chances in the papers before big championship matches? In the Derry Journal Brian McGuckin says Derry 'won't go to Mayo just to make up the numbers' and Barton in today's The Irish News says Derry 'can do a Down' this weekend (Barton). Before the Tyrone game McGuckin told The Irish News that Derry would put it up to Tyrone and 'won't throw in the towel this time'. I just can't get my head around why the management feels the need to come out these sound bites before important championship matches? As lovely as they sound I personally don't think it helps the underdog at all.

Would not be surprised if there was a few changes in the starting team for Derry, I would expect James Keilt to replace Danny Talon and Shane McGuigan to replace Benny Heron and maybe just put Mark Lynch in for Carlus McWillaims.
Good Luck Derry!!!

I don't think they expected the Galway full back line to be so poor and tactics don't seem to be our strong point at the moment. The Ros are forewarned. Interesting game ahead. As for this great Mayo team, (your words) as with all great teams, they are coming to the end of their cycle. Galway at the minute remind me of ourselves in 1967. We got giddy after beating that great Galway team and thought we were going to take over from them on the national stage. We didn't realise that it was more the case of Galway being on the way down than Mayo being on the way up. Galway may well be the team of the future but I will take more convincing than a one point win at home against a fourteen man Mayo side who are clearly on the wane. You may well beat the Ros, or maybe not, but until we see how you fare against a Kerry, Tyrone or Dublin in Croke Park the jury is still very much out. There is a lot of goodwill towards Galway right now, they being the new kids on the block so to speak, but as we found out goodwill only lasts so long. Make the most of your popularity as i fear it is only fleeting!

Mayo have not improved from teams like 1989, 1996, 97,99, 04, 06, 13, 16, etc etc not sure what you are on about knocking Galway........will beat Derry today by 5 though

You appear to be a student of the finer tactical nuances of the game.
What the boys analysing the games at sky couldn't learn from you.

All I said about Galway was that the jury is still out and that they will have to win a game or two in Croke Park before they can be judged. Their full back line was poor against Mayo and that will be exploited later on if not rectified. If you see that as knocking Galway then fair enough. I'm sorry I don't understand your point regarding Mayo.

Well , should have known better.
The Mayo shooting is some of the worst I've ever seen and that includes Cork.
