Mayo v Derry

Replying To jackmeyhoffer:  "Is that an insinuation he's the best 3? If that's the case are Mayo a better team with him back? and surely then you must feel they would won last years all Ireland if he wasn't injured. Have you ever actually seen him do something in a game or are you as deluded as the media who awarded him an all star in 2012"
Ah chill out there for a second horsebox....hard to judge tone from an online post.

My question was a genuine one - as in who would Mayo people like to see at 3?

Jezz - there's some hate on here lads!

Would love to see Derry win this one. Hope the referee has the confidence to referee this one by the rules and use his head and not let mayo away with the same antics that they used against Galway.

Mayo are really starting to feel the pinch with injuries at the minute. We started the Galway game minus three Allstars and lost another to a red card. Two more Allstars went off injured in club games at the weekend. We really don't have replacements of the same calibre and could be very vulnerable against Derry. On the plus side we are due one or two refereeing decisions going our way after all the ones that have gone against us over the years. Maybe we'll get a bit of well deserved luck for a change!

What rubbish about refereeing decisions. Every team could say this. Ye've had plenty go your way too. Typical blinkered view as to why you haven't got over the line

rockyroad, the rossies are showing form, galway beat a 14 man team by 1 point and played against them for 50 minutes with 15 players.

Will you not just move on? Ah sure it's the referee's fault. If this is about 2014, grow up. If you are about it then please query how ye dumped Cork out of the Championship that year? It was the same referee who cost ye the Championship that year.

Or how a Mayo player conned the referee to win a penalty v Fermanagh last year? Decisions happen, dwelling in the past is not going to do anyone any good. Kerry has benefited from poor decisions (example: our goal v Roscommon this year shouldn't have stood, and the Rossies were probably robbed of a draw or win in the league as a result) but we have also had poor decisions against us.

In the last 5 years, what years did Mayo lose because they were simply not good enough?

Lazy analysis or lack of football knowledge.

1) Rossies form: OK yes they are showing good form, against Leitrim - not sure how much weight this holds

2) Keith Higgins (I actually love this lad as a footballer and as a hurler) but he got sent off - take your anger out on him, not Galway. The way Galway set-up with the sweeper as the extra man was always going to invite Mayo on. Also, you forgot to mention Galway playing into a GALE for 45 of those 50mins!

Now, as a Galway fan - wish Mayo all the best, I think ye'll see of Derry without much problems. Not sure what your so bitter against Galway, Mayo were NOT robbed by any means in Salthill.

The ref didn't kick the wides that would have won us the game in Salthill. Nor in Limerick in 2014. Long past time we started to fix what we can rather than blaming outside influences for our own failings.

Can't agree with that. Luck goes with and against you. EVERY team experiences it.

Chill out my friend. It was just a tongue in cheek response to a Monaghan lad who was banging on about referees favouring Mayo. Nothing more, nothing less, no hidden agendas, no sly digs at Kerry, not even a defence of big Aidan (although come to think of it, it was a blatant foul and we should have had two penalties before that) So go and gather up those toys surrounding the pram, nothing to see here.

Mayo were robbed by Cormac Reilly in 2014 but it was still a match they had won the first day and again in the replay the game looked over early on.

As for the elder O'Connor he has the knack of winning a free down to a tee. I'm more bothered by his other antics, he's always in the referee's ears and he's never far away when a scuffle breaks out; He's a great man to wind someone up and then get them booked like he did with Bradshaw.

True but Comer wound Keith Higgins up too. Are we going to keep going with this he did, you did ? We could go for the year

I'm sure he did but O'Connor is a serial offender and Comer has a long way to go before he's up to O'Connor's level of craftiness.

Belclare, I presume you watched the game... the Higgins sending off put us one down in the forwards and more importantly enabled your own side to park an extra player in front of your FB line. With the fitness of players these days that was the key to ye winning the game. Might have happened some other way if it had stayed 15 against 15, but that sending off papered over a lot of cracks in the Galway defence. I'm sure KW and the lads will be working hard to secure things for the Connacht final and beyond.
