Mayo if they make the quarters will probably meet Kerry, they cant meet Dublin, Tyrone, Monaghan or Down till the final. [Down v Mayo** in the final - that would be an excting turn up! ] As regards Tyrone V Dublin final even Bill Gates and George Soros combined haven't enough money to make that happen, All that aside yours is a good post, it makes as much sense as 70% of the stuff posted here! ** There is another upside to Mayo making the final - Galway [football] will still be involved come September, well if you count sending tweets on AIF day as being involved ;-) timmyhogan (UK) - Posts: 290 - 03/07/2017 10:14:42 2009410 Link 0 |
Mayo are still a very dangerous team, all they need is for their forwards to step up a gear and they could beat anyone on the day, I thought Derry deserved a replay but that's not how it works but it was an encouraging display for them for next year. Derry gave us plenty of problems and showed up a couple of defensive defects that'll have to be cured before next weekend. Apart from that the lads will have to get into a more composed state of mind when aiming at a set of goalposts... remarkable that many can hit a moving target with a 40m footpass but can't thread a 6.5m gap from 30! That said the extra time transformation could prove a real shot in arm for the forwards. Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 03/07/2017 14:01:19 2009633 Link 0 |
Anyone else notice how bad Maurice Deegans throw ins were on Saturday, every one of them was short and straight to Aidan O'Shea keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 03/07/2017 17:12:03 2009831 Link 1 |
Yes but in fairness to AOS , not his problem. Overall I don't think he had that great a game. His strengths are still his strengths. Runs at teams, wins a fair share of frees, good fielding. Though think his weakness were still on show. Poor kick passing and hand passing (one horrendous one that a better team would have punished). Wasted as that target man role IMO, just not mobile enough and any decent GK/FB line can deal with it handily enough. For me, I thought Mayo's bench , Seamus O Shea and Loftus, made more of an impact than anyone who started. Good sign for them as the quality of their bench was not great in previous years. poguemahone (Dublin) - Posts: 365 - 03/07/2017 17:23:44 2009835 Link 0 |
To be fair people give off about A O'shea winning frees, but it's hard to defend against a man of his size and strength without fouling. There are plenty of times down the years where he couldn't get arrested

Fair play to Aidan for standing nearest to him.

No agreed, no issues with the frees he won on Saturday. I'd consider that type of aggressive running one of his strengths and if he draws the foul, job done. In other areas he is not so effective. He does tend to get highlighted in most games but to get over the line against Derry, a few others stepped up when needed.
