It's been a hectic 6 years of rollar coaster...will we ever reach the top is the question?"
After seeing Derry twice fail to put any kind of challenge to Tyrone in the last two championships I do not see where they will cause another top team such as Mayo any problems. I think Derry have some good players such as Kielt but they do not seem to be getting the best out of the team in big matches.

Cant see anything but a Mayo win

Although just reading about the injuries that Mayo could be looking at

Def not the best of news for Mayo - never good to be missing key men

No real pressure on Derry - might give them a bit of looseness in the legs to go and play well

Still though Mayo should be looking at a 5+ win here

Derry have a good footballing tradition and have some quality players in the squad. However for whatever reason it hasn't happened for them in the past while and Tyrone beat them very very easily the past 2 years.

I'd expect Mayo to be winning this with quite a bit to spare to be honest.

I second this. Anyone know if this game is on TV?

Reminder to all Derry wans - don't forget to buy your Lotto tickets when you're down in the Whest.

As for the game - I've held out hope the last couple of years that Derry would make an impact but they seem to disappoint year on year. Even after a poor League I kind of thought that having the Slaughtneil guys available after their AI run would show us a different team but alas I haven't been convinced in what I have seen in the Championship. Hard to look by Mayo by 6+ points.

We could keep it tight for the first half however Mayo have more quality all over the park and will be stung back into action following successive Connacht defeats by Galway . Mayo by anywhere from 7-10 points ...I hate to say .

The feeling is caution...Mayo a poor league but upped it when we needed to against Roscommon, Donegal and Tyrone. The Sligo game was a poor performance, as was Galway. Form is not good at present. We are capable of so much more. Whichever Mayo turns up...

They won't hammer them, they should win for sure.

Mayo's performances against Galway was a lot more impressive than it was last summer so I think Mayo will win comfortably against all their opponents in the qualifiers.

Not sure about that - Mayo were always ahead last year bar a 10min spell when Galway scored 1-4 without reply or something. Outside of that Mayo looked to be in control - this year it looked as though Galway were in control of the game.

Mayo will beat Derry though

Home advantage again for Mayo. That should see them over the line.

Plus Barton and the players don't seem to be pulling in the one direction. I get the feeling that the players are hard to handle? What do the Derry folk think?

That was certainly a higher quality game than what we had last year, Galway are a better team and Mayo produced a far better performance.

Is that an insinuation he's the best 3? If that's the case are Mayo a better team with him back? and surely then you must feel they would won last years all Ireland if he wasn't injured. Have you ever actually seen him do something in a game or are you as deluded as the media who awarded him an all star in 2012

We need Mayo to be focused on the Derry game not like last year when the team was using the qualifiers to try out tactics for the final v Dublin if we were to get that far like playing Kevin McLoughlin as a sweeper, there was no need to use that game plan in the first 3 qualifier games, start that nonsense again this year and we will be caught out

Killarney - Barton is only making the most of what he has in front of him . He has played something like 71 players in two years . For two years in succession either before the league or at the end of the league players feel that they do not want to commit to play for the Derry senior football team . It's like the team that no one wants to play for . Whoever does play is fully committed however there was an instance last week when the captain played a league game last Monday when he requested that everyone take a break . How does one manage that scenario ? Absolutely impossible . There is in my opinion a split happening in some counties whereupon if they feel that they are not been financially rewarded like in some of the more wealthy or asset rich counties that they will play flat to the planks for their club and winning club honours means more than county and has the benefit that they can work abroad for the summer and play football for the summer and get paid handsomely . Why wouldn't they ?

I see a serious split in the next 5-10 years between club and county . Super 8 is the beginning . Against the ethos of the GAA , amateurism is nearly finished and pay for play is on the way ..

Mayo still by 10 , too much quality

Hard to see Derry giving Mayo a tight game, my expectation is that Mayo will win comfortably in the end. Club loyalties and lack of commitment to a County team that most feel is going nowhere is killing them, making it impossible for any manager to make a proper success of them.
