Down v Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Could this be a potential bannana skin for Monaghan? All the talk is about a Tyrone v Monaghan Ulster final which could make Monaghan complacent. I was impressed with Down the first day out but they coughed up a lot of goal chances to Armagh. If Down can tighten up at the back then this game could be closer than people think. I'd still fancy Monaghan by 4/5 points.

I fancied Monaghan to win Ulster this year, they looked strong and solid all over the pitch and now have McCarron joining McManus up front, meaning they now have two top notch men on the full forward line. Monaghan can finally punch their way through to All Ireland Semi Final and beyond, people are talking about Tyrone being All Ireland contenders, but I actually would fancy Monaghan for Sam.

Down could cause an upset, god knows its nice to see them getting it together towards the end of the league and in the opening championship game. But my gut feeling is that Monaghan are ahead of them in too many areas for this to be likely. Down are a team on the up, but not this year.
Monaghan for the Anglo Celt and possibly Sam Maguire.

Since Down beat us in 2012 we have only lost to one team in the ulster championship. A lot of those matches we were favourites in but the team did its job. Down will be tough opposition improving side but we should be ok by a few points.

Ah, of course a Cavan man would say something like that. After looking at your forum before our match I'll take your opinion with a pince of salt.

Down playing some really nice football with some good scores but can't they keep it up?

Some great scores, particularly from Down, in a very entertaining first half.

Smashing game of football here Down really putting it up to monaghan McKernan for Down is a real inspirational type of player. Monaghan finished half with 2 good scores I think they will come through in the 2nd half.

Great stuff here from Down. 7 points up with 27 mins to go.

I wouldn't put the comeback past Monaghan though. Should be a great finish to the game.

15 mins to go. 4 points in it but I think Down are getting tired.

If Monaghan keep their heads they'll win this.

I hope I'm wrong, but can see Down edging this by one. Monaghan's bench will keep them in it by the looks of things.
