Are Galway now better than Mayo?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Galway beat Mayo in Connacht two years in a row and the obsession is with Mayo. Mayo are an ageing team with a dearth of forwards to propel them to the next level. They have come excruciatingly close but I think this group have come to the end of the road. That said they can navigate their way through the qualifiers but I think a semi final place may even be beyond them.

Galway are improving but Mayo are flat. Their discipline or lack of is costing them dearly. Refs are waking up to this and showing the cards but not strong enough. The next ref to take charge of a game involving mayo needs to not be shy about showing the cards.

Sounds like a cry for help Border Gael. Could it be that Monaghan will finally win a big game in Croker this year if all the referees change the way they enforce the rules? There was a time not long ago when Mayo were being pilloried for naivety, and even more recently, so were Galway. That club doesn't include either side anymore and you won't hear many complaints from the West about that.

This debate will probably run for a while because i would expect both Galway and Mayo to make All ireland quarter final exits this summer and in div one next year the loser of Mayo v Galway will probably suffer relegation along with Kildare.

In all the analysis of Mayo's demise and Galways revival due to this game people seem to have forgotten that Mayo played most of the game with 14 men and thus it is completely pointless making any conclusions at all from this game regarding either team.

Galway better than Mayo...? Not on your nelly.

Galway are improving all the time whilst Mayo are going in the opposite direction.
But come the business end of the season there is no comparison between the two teams and I know who I would rather face at that stage. Mayo will go close again this year and are a much better side IMO.
