Martin Carney informing viewers that Niel McAdam of Monaghan has got planning permission to live in Gareth Mckiernan of Cavan.
Jaysus above,If you know the right people you can get away with anything !"
I mute the TV for any match he is commentator on, very very poor. His bias when Mayo are playing & he is co commentating on is just shocking. Even Spillane is more bearable than Carney.

Jaysus.
Another nerve shredder.

Fair play to Cavan, confounded many.

Delighted to be progressing, lessons to be learned, but we go again.

As expected there wasn't much in it at the end, but I didn't expect it to be that close at the death!

We weren't overly impressive to say the least but I thought we deserved the win, had a huge amount of the ball in the second half but just didn't make good use of it. 15 wides I think I heard we had, were usually much more efficient than that. Even our best performers like McManus and Duffy were a mixed bag. No harm to get over the line with a huge amount to work on.

Once again the difference in the end was McManus, but I'd be disappointed we didn't kill the game off after that. We certainly had the chances but again we just weren't clinical. Credit to Cavan for battling to the end, it wasn't far away from going to a replay.

Good result cavan are a decent outfit were never going to go away and we didn't play well Darren Hughes badly needed back. Mcmanus despite having gone back from player he was a few years ago is still one of the best in the business. Hopefully Jack can kick on against Down struggling with championship 17 so far. Special mention to Owen Duffy who has been our best player in both matches. All in all we are where we want to be but huge improvement needed for tests ahead.

Enjoyable game considering heavy rain beforehand and a very strong wind into town goal. Cavan probably needed a bigger margin at half time considering the breeze. They didn't have the same threat in the FF line and except for the last kick of the game never had any sniff of a goal threat.

Mcmanus and Duffy the difference - Mcmanus scored a point from the corner into a gale that was a thing of beauty.

Though felt with the wind advantage Monaghan should have closed this out earlier

Beggan hit some big long rangers and was commanding under high ball but his longer range kick outs with the wind were well off the mark

Expect Tyrone or Donegal to put much more pressure on him

I do the same. Otherwise, I miss parts of the game by getting wound up by what he says : )

Very much so, but there wouldn't be anything malicious in it.

The goal from McManus really was a thing of real class. The off the ball movement, sidestep and finish all highlighted the difference between a very good forward and a class forward. I couldn't help but think if the black card wasn't in the Cavan 6 would just have hauled him down like he was a few years ago in another pivotal moment in a big game.

Should have fouled him anyway.

McManus and Duffy were brilliant today no doubt about it , Duffy's first point was something else,

Special mention however to Neil McAdam who had a great game on McKiernan and Drew Wylie who was a rock at the back , Malone who put in a good shift from the start , McCarthy and McAnespie who were brilliant when they came on

In all honesty the Cavan defender should have just taken the black card and took down McManus. Yes it's cynical, but with the current rule set there's not much incentive not to do it. It was near the end anyway and another Cavan man could have come on. And in a tight game like that a goal was always going to be huge. Maybe the Cavan defender just lacked that bit of cuteness to take him down. Compare that to Duffy near the end, taking a black card to slow down a Cavan counter attack.

Concede a goal chance or a certain point from the free and miss the last 20 minutes? People are always highlighting when the black card doesn't work, was this an example of when it really does work? In any case I'm delighted he didn't foul him and we saw one of the goals of the championship by one of the games best players - surely bits of class like that is why we all watch the games?

Naivety in the extreme not to foul him.
