Looking at the crowd at the match I've always wondered if it would be better playing limerick clare championship games at the gaelic grounds. Firstly if clare objected with it been at limericks home ground fair enough but where the pitch is located just north of the Shannon it's almost the the ideal venue geographically. Places like Cratloe,Shannon, sixmilebridge and cloonlara are all only 20 mins from the stadium bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 06/06/2017 01:27:26 1995349 Link 0 |
Sean Finn did appear to be on the ball a lot but did he really play well? The performance of a corner back is defined by what his man scored and McGrath took him for 1-3. Strange that people think he played well given this. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2490 - 06/06/2017 03:00:03 1995351 Link 0 |
In fairness to McCarthy he kept Shanager scoreless. He is an accident waiting to happen and sees his name in lights too often. David McInerney gave an exhibition in full back play I thought.

I thought Seamus Hickey had a good game yesterday and is in general having a good season. I didnt think he would live with Kelly but Kelly looks devoid of confidence and stuck to the ground in many respects. The club championship has taken the life out of him it would seem. I would give him a two week break from training now and get him back into the panel for the 3 weeks to the final. He is a big game player and will have a point to prove for the Munster final. I was wrong about Hickey and he played well. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2490 - 06/06/2017 03:07:32 1995353 Link 0 |
the 1993 game had around 12ish - 96 games had around 40k - played clare in gaelic ground in league in 1998 in front of 18000 - staggering when you think of it

I think Cratloe once gave up home advantage in Ennis for a club Munster Final given their a stones throw from Caherdavin.

Just on Sunday's game it was no wonder that the crowd was small €30.00 a ticket €5.00 for a programme and then to be served a poor game. clooney (Clare) - Posts: 891 - 06/06/2017 11:41:17 1995481 Link 0 |
David McCarthy had a great game but our boys did help by sending every ball in high. Fatal against the best full back in the country, especially with small corner forwards on either side.

Zulu Were you there that day? I was and I have never experienced heat like it. Joe Quaid was interviewed recently and he said he got sunstroke after the game and that the heat was awful and he was playing in goal. It was the only time I ever saw a mirage rising off a pitch at the end of a game. Whatever about skill I was directly in line with the LK half back line in the second half and to say that on several occasions all the Lk backs appeared to be about to be overrun is to put it mildly. I thought every man jack of them stood to the plate and Mark Foley from start to finish was awesome. The Clare forwards of the day were brilliant and always seemed to have a yard of pace on them on several occasions but our boys contrived to hassle hook block or judiciously foul all day. As a Cork Examiner of the day Billy George said 'it was remorseless' The greatest I have seen in well over years. Well i sure think so. What's happened to Pa Kelly? Is he still on the panel? Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 1913 - 06/06/2017 13:47:17 1995587 Link 0 |
Oldtourman, I think even neutrals look back on that epic as one of the great games. "It was remorseless" was how hurling was back then. Is it better served in the modern day of 2nd chances, etc? I'm not sure. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 06/06/2017 14:08:41 1995607 Link 0 |
Sorry- senior moment. I meant David McInerny of course- and not McCarthy.

He is from what I know of the latest panel release by Clare GAA. Any of the Clare lads on ere know why Donal Tuohy still being over looked?

If he can repeat his 13 form and carry on from last Sunday McInerney could be a serious contender, who do you consider the best full back? Quite frankly after seeing last years Munster and All Ireland finals and Cork v Tipp and the League final and semi finals I do not think there are many stand out full backs around.

Point taken Oldtour. Yes I was at it and never forget the game, the heat and the finish. It was undeniably the best Clare Limerick game Ive seen.

while we are dissappointed to lose, its not a tragedy its a game of hurling, clares mcgrath, odonnell conlon and galvin played well, for limerick i feel there are more positives to be taken from this than any of our defeats in 2015 and 2016, also bear in mind its a young inexperienced team, janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 08/06/2017 09:47:01 1996786 Link 0 |
