If all those GPO's aren't as great as they are on the tin we will gladly take some of them in Kerry and I'm sure other counties would feel the same

Who said they weren't great? All that was said is that they don't work exclusively with clubs or with kids who already play GAA which appeared to be the belief people had when arguing over them.

clubs would hugely benefit from having that full time link between schools and the club

and the GPOs in Dublin are occasionally used by adult and underage teams in clubs

Of course they're a benefit, the GAA wouldn't be putting funding towards them in any county if they weren't a benefit. The FAI and IRFU also have numerous coaches who go into schools and work with youth sections in clubs but I doubt it had much impact on Cork Con winning the UBL at the weekend.

Clubs are putting money towards the GDO's, it's only fair then that they get to work with the clubs and the coaches as a result no?

Again

So much misinformation being spouted as fact by people that have a very limited knowledge about how it all works.

But you see.. it suits a certain narrative and as such they'll ignorantly run with it to suit their own purposes.

At the end of the day, empty vessels make the most noise.

Absolutely there is a benefit and it would be foolish to state otherwise , IF and I mean IF they are good at their job they can have a massive impact in numbers at juvenile level. most coaches at that level will have major back ground in strength and conditioning also , Speaking of my own club Ive seen programmes come in that are a massive help in injury prevention , that said some buy into it and some don't ,
This year our under 15 team folded through lack of numbers , its a constant battle , getting them in the schools is crucial and no team in Dublin has done it better than Castleknock they have used GPO very successfully in creating a YOU MUST PLAY culture in the area , its cool type thinking

Its a pain in the neck reading this rehashed thread again (!), but you sum it up perfectly - but as you say it doesn't fit the narrative. Now what you describe is no different than my own club. Ditto at county level across the board in Dublin. The reality is most of what the county board spends its money on is the development of the game, yeah our game as in not Dublins game but our game.

I think one of the unseen benefits is having a link between clubs and local schools who knows when and where games are scheduled and has an understanding of how much training outside of the club kids are doing.

Amazing the amount of times I've seen clubs cancel training last minute because a school team had a match on the same day. At least if somebody is working with kids in both environments, or talking to the adults / coaches in charge it helps flag things like that in advance.

I never said it would be those exact coaches from Dublin, I said was if they aren't so amazing then I'm sure the rest of the country would like extra full time coaches supplied by the GAA

You seem to be confusing coaches with promotions officers, if people think these roles just involve coaching players all week then they're completely wide of the mark.

I'm sure Dublin would like extra full time coaches too, but unless their clubs start paying even more for them than they already are then they won't be getting them any time soon.
