Dublin unreachable - fact or fiction?

They are the team to beat but they are reachable.

2010 beaten x2 (Meath and Cork)
2011 won all ireland courtesy of a last second free, trailing by 4 with 7 minutes to go
2012 beaten by mayo
2013 won all ireland but had a narrow semi final win v kerry
2014 beaten by donegal
2015 went to a replay with mayo in the semis
2016 went to a replay with mayo in the final

This year, they have drawn 3 league games and were run very close the last day out v monaghan.

If you consider 2013, 2015 and 2016 dublin were the superior team those years but were given very close games. I believe they are capable of losing a game if the law of averages are anything to go by. There is a team out there training specifically for a date with dublin and no other team in croke park. That is what it takes to beat them. You have got to put all your eggs in that basket and hope to get through the other games hoping that you can peak and trough your way through the other fixtures somehow.

I base this on JMG and what he said about the 2014 experience. We nearly got beaten by armagh in the quarter finals due to aiming at the dubs.

This year Dublin are on the ulster side of the draw and there could be a tasty semi final involving either ourselves, tyrone or monaghan. Then a final against either kerry or mayo. Both teams have given the dubs terribly difficult games, the later drawing twice and winning 5 years ago.

I think that no team has a monopoly on winning indefinitely and if there is any weakness in the dubs on a big day out against a team ready for them, they could be in serious trouble.

Dublin's dominance of late has been done the hard way

No doubt, but there has been a hysterical reaction to it

Your post is bang on, we had a core of a very good team in 09/10

We got the right management combo in Pat Gilroy and Mickey Whelan, we got the monkey off our back, and then we produced two excellent U21 sides that coincided with the 2011 result

This added about 10 players into an already strong panel, and who was in charge of those U21 sides while all of the above was going on?

Jim Gavin.
