NFL 4: Hennessy the Deise hero
March 14, 2010
Waterford have gone top of Division 4 of the NFL after Wayne Hennessy's late point handed them a surprise victory over Munster rivals Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds last night.
Limerick 1-11
Waterford 1-12
The victory maintains Waterford's unbeaten start to the campaign and keeps them firmly in the hunt for promotion. In a hard-fought encounter, the sides were level on 0-5 each at the interval. And although the visitors took the lead two minutes after the restart, the teams were level on a number of occasions thereafter.
John Owens' charges moved into a 1-8 to 0-6 lead 14 minutes into the second half when Robert Ahern found the net, but a Seanie Buckley penalty five minutes later had the home side ahead by 1-9 to 1-8.
However, Waterford refused to panic and Hennessy's late winner brought an end to Limerick's unbeaten run.
