Pete McGrath has stood down as Fermanagh senior football manager after four years in the role.

The Fermanagh county board confirmed last week that McGrath will remain in charge of the county's senior footballers in 2018, however, the Down native has made a u-turn on his decision to stay at the Erne County helm.

The two-time All-Ireland-winning manager took over the Fermanagh reins ahead of the 2014 season, leading them to promotion from Division 3 of the National League along with an All-Ireland quarter-final appearance against Dublin two years later.

However, with the depature of up to 20 players from the squad since 2015, Fermanagh were unable to build on their progress made under McGrath and endured a difficult season in 2017, losing their Division 2 status and suffering nine-point losses to both Monaghan and Armagh in the championship.
