An almost one-sided match

06 July 2010

Fermanagh Under 14 Hurling League - 2010
Round "2"

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 5 gls. 11 pts;
Knock's Grattan's 0 gl 8pts.

Played at Cavanacarragh Hurling Park

Monday 5 July 2010

With the notably exception of the Knock's mid-fielder Mathew McGrade who registered all of his side's eight points, this was a lack luster Knock's performance, who rather easily succumbed to a more powerful Lisbellaw side. The silkier St Patrick's side registered a massive total of 5 goals 11 points at the games end. And at the matches interval had score an impressive tally of 2 goals 5 points. In the resumed second half they Lisbellaw side added 2 goals 6 points at their leisure. Whilst the Knock's kept up their point scoring record of 4 points in each half it was total paled in comparison to Lisbellaw's massive score.

The Game - First Half

This games hosts Lisbellaw got this match off to flying start, when their left full forward Darragh McGurn banged in the St Patrick's first goal from play. Very quickly was joined in this mini scoring blitz by his colleague and full forward Paddy Hyde who popped over his and his side's first point. Finlay as the Knock's side got into their stride their talisman Mathew McGrade popped over his and his side's first point. However the quickly dominant Lisbellaw lads firmly seized control of this game and registered a further one goal four points from the following, David Teague one point from play, Mathew Martin one point from play, Paddy Hyde a personal second and third points from play. With this match now well into its second quarter it was time for centre half forward Stephen Breen to step up to the scoring plate, when he tapped over the St Patrick's fifth and final point of the opening half. However it was the now firmly on fire Paddy Hyde who blasted home his side's second goal from play. With the first thirty minutes gone by the matches referee blew on his whistle the short blast for half-time in a game that had become one all too quickly one sided.

Half time scores.

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 2 gls. 5 pts; Knock's Grattan's 0 gl 4 pts.

More of the Same

Déjà vue, it was the first half all over again. Only it was the Lisbellaw lads that had two of their green flag raising events within minutes of the game resuming. It was now the turn of Eoin Cleary to fire home his side's third goal. The latter was joined in this high scoring blitz by David Teague, who fired home his side's fourth goal. The now totally dominant St Patrick's sides that changed tactics and subsequently popped, clipped and pucked over an additional six scores from frees and play. The Lisbellaw lads point scores were Jack Gavin (1 point), Eoin Cleary (3 points), Micky Williamson (1 pt.), Dillon Bannon (1 point). However the scoring high point of the games fourth quarter came from the prolific point scorer Eoin Cleary who fired home the games last goal.
