"The Meaths, the Kildares, the Offalys, they've just faded into oblivion"

Goalkeeping legend John O'Leary has pointed the finger of blame for the demise of the Leinster SFC at the pretenders to Dublin's throne.

The Delaney Cup has all but taken up permanent residence in the Parnell Park trophy cabinet and O'Leary says counties such as Meath, Kildare and Offaly have questions to answer.

"It's a massive problem," he told The Irish Daily Star.

"Everyone blames Dublin for the demise of the Leinster Championship. But it's not Dublin's fault. It's the quality of the opposition. When I started off playing, there was Dublin and Offaly, then Dublin and Meath, Kildare, Laois and Westmeath later on.

"There was always at least one other county in Leinster who had a chance of winning the title. You have to ask other counties in Leinster why aren't they beating Dublin.

"The Meaths, the Kildares, the Offalys, they've just faded into oblivion. Meath and Kildare have access to plenty of players.

"At the end of the day, it's about what you do with them at underage, with clubs and with development squads."
