The CCCC has proposed a three-match suspension for the Dublin footballer at the centre of the alleged biting incident which took place during last Sunday week's Allianz League clash with Donegal.

The player, who the Irish Times names as Kevin O'Brien (his identity hasn't been made public until now), has vowed to appeal the ban which threatens to rule him out of Sunday week's Allianz League final against Tyrone as well as Dublin's first two championship games.

The Naomh Mearnog defender, who captained Dublin to last year's All-Ireland U21 title, was the subject of allegations by Donegal that he bite Paddy McBrearty on the shoulder during the drawn encounter in Ballybofey, which resulted in the All-Ireland champions' demotion to Division 2.

Dublin county board chairman Andy Kettle confirmed that they had been notified by the CCCC yesterday of the proposed ban and that the player would be taking his case to the Central Hearings Committee.

"The situation now is that it is up to the player, not the county board, to decide what he wishes to do and the player has decided that he wishes to appeal," Kettle said in the Irish Examiner.

"The suspension has been proposed so that is where it rests now. It's going through the disciplinary procedure now so I won't be discussing the actual case. There's a process there now and Dublin will be adhering to that."
