Ballyboden St Enda’s are Dublin senior hurling champions for the seventh time after a strong second-half showing saw them edge out Kilmacud Crokes at the second attempt in Parnell Park today.
The final replay finished 2-15 to 1-15 in ‘Boden’s favour after Joe Fortune’s charges overturned a two-point half-time deficit.
A Conor McCormack goal had given the winners the perfect start but the Anthony Daly managed Crokes replied with goal of their own through Oisin O’Rorke and they led by 1-9 to 1-7 at the halfway stage.
Paul Ryan – who finished with 1-5 beside his name – pounced for a second Ballyboden goal seven minutes after the restart but their Stillorgan opponents continued to battle and there was just a point between the teams entering injury-time.
Full-forward Ryan opened up a two-point gap before Dublin footballer Colm Basquel – who had entered the fray as a 59th minute substitute – sent over what proved to be the last score of an exciting contest.
Supporters of Kilmacud Crokes, meanwhile, will be hoping their footballers can go one step further when they take on St Jude's in the football decider tomorrow.
