Mr Michael Mooney Profound shock and sadness spread throughout the community following the tragic death of Annalong man Mr Michael Mooney. Predeceased by his father Richard, he is survived by his mother Claire, brother Richard (Annalong), sister Maryann Cunningham (Ballymartin), sister-in-law Julie, Christopher, nephews James, Matthew and Ronan and nieces Niamh. Aged 30 Michael (Mick to his many friends) worked as a driver for Kilhorne Bay Seafoods, a good job he enjoyed. He was happiest in the home environment surrounded by family and friends. Mick possessed an easy-going nature with a happy outlook on life and as such made friends easily. This was evident by the large numbers who visited the house and attended the funeral service. Mick's interests revolved around football and he played over a number of years for town local teams - Glasdrumman GAC and Mourne Rovers FC. He excelled at sports and indeed in his youth played County Minor football for Down. More recently he starred on the Glasdrumman team that won the the All County Division 3 League. The Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary's Church, Glasdrumman, on Wednesday 26 October and was conducted by Fr Peter O'Hare PP. There were numerous floral tributes.
